Local Organization Supports Homeless CFISD Students
Last week, Cy-Fair ISD welcomed over 117,000 students across its 93 campuses for the 2022-2023 school year. For the majority of those students, the start of a new school year is full of excitement. New clothes, fresh school supplies, a trendy new backpack and the security of knowing their needs are met. Unfortunately, a surprising number of students in Cy-Fair ISD don't necessarily share that feeling. Over 1,400 students are designated as homeless across the district, with many more students being classified as economically disadvantaged.
Although the school district has programs in place to support homeless students through various resources and counseling services, community organizations like Cy-Fair Helping Hands have, time and time again, offered additional support for CFISD's homeless students. One of the ways they help is through a snack food drive for homeless students in CFISD schools. This program helps supply school counselors with snack foods that they can provide to homeless students.
Providing these snack foods are made possible through donations from community members like you. Cy-Fair Helping Hands is currently accepting donations from Monday through Thursday at 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM. Counselors will be asking for these items within the coming weeks, and the need will persist throughout the school year. Here's a list of items they are seeking to help feed homeless CFISD students:
- Cheese sandwich
- Crackers
- Pretzels
- Fruit snacks
- Breakfast bars
- Oatmeal packets
- Peanut butter crackers
- Cup A Soup
- Trail mix
- Popcorn
- Pop Tarts
- Fruit cups
- GoGurt squeeze yogurt tubes
- Pudding cups
- Cliff bars
- Mac & cheese cups
- Ramen
- Peanut butter in cups
- Capri Sun
- Vienna sausages
- Granola bars
Snack food items can be dropped off at Cy-Fair Helping Hands' location at 9606 Kirkton Dr, Houston, TX 77095. While shopping for your own groceries, please consider picking up a few of these items in support of homeless children right here in your community.
