Cy-Fair Helping Hands’ 4th Annual Back to School Bash Provides Free School Supplies to Over 2,300 Cy-Fair ISD Students in Need
On Saturday, August 2, 2025, Calvary Community Church in Copperfield came alive with music, games, and the buzz of families gathering for the Cy-Fair Helping Hands 4th Annual Back to School Bash. This free school supply event, a highlight for many in northwest Harris County, ensured that Cypress-Fairbanks ISD students in need had the essentials to begin the year with confidence.
The Bash combined a carnival atmosphere—complete with 33 fun booths and activities—with a mission-driven effort to provide backpacks, age-appropriate school clothing, and essential classroom supplies for students whose families face financial challenges.
“The Back to School Bash is one of our favorite events of the year because it demonstrates what happens when our amazing volunteers and our generous Cy-Fair community come together,” said Pat Hudson, Director of Community Outreach for Cy-Fair Helping Hands.

Addressing the Need in the Cy-Fair Community
Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is the third-largest school district in Texas, serving more than 118,000 students. According to recent Texas Education Agency data, over 42% of CFISD students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, a statistic that highlights the importance of free backpack giveaways and school supply drives like this one.
Founded in 2010, Cy-Fair Helping Hands has become a trusted nonprofit in Cypress and northwest Houston, known for supporting the homeless, at-risk youth, and struggling families. Its programs go beyond meeting immediate needs—they focus on housing stability, life skills development, and youth empowerment. The Back to School Bash is one of its most anticipated events, blending practical assistance with a celebration that reminds students they are valued.
“The whole experience is so special and truly so fun! The smiles on the children’s faces remind us all why we do this work. A time of pure happiness,” said Janet Ryan, Executive Director of Cy-Fair Helping Hands.

Volunteers and Partners Make It Happen
This year’s Back to School Bash was powered by a remarkable show of community engagement:
- 120 community partners, including 11 local churches
- 33 carnival booths and exhibits to entertain students
- 75 volunteers, including many dedicated members of the Cy-Fair Women’s Club (CWC), handling guest registration, clothing selection, backpack distribution, parking, shuttles, food service, and clean-up
In total, 2,302 Cy-Fair ISD students left with the tools they need for academic success—and the encouragement that their community believes in them.
“Cy-Fair Helping Hands extends its deepest gratitude to the generous donors whose financial contributions and in-kind gifts made it possible to serve so many children,” Hudson added. “We are especially grateful to Muriel Kruger, our Backpack Coordinator, and to our B2SB team that made everything happen! Finally, we extend our appreciation to the community participants and partners who helped create a fun, supportive atmosphere that turned this distribution event into a true celebration.”
