Cy-Fair Fire Department to Host Life-Saving CPR Classes This Month

Cardiac arrest can happen anywhere and at any time. According to the American Heart Association, more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of the hospital each year, with most out of hospital cardiac arrests occurring in homes or residences. If performed immediately, CPR can double or triple the chance of survival from an out of hospital cardiac arrest.

During the month of November, the Cy-Fair Fire Department will offer the following CPR classes to help Cy-Fair residents prepare for the unexpected and potentially save a life. All Classes are held at the Administration Office located at 10710 Telge Road, Houston, Texas  77095.
 
Saturday, November 11, 2023 @ 9:00 AM (4 hours)
American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR
Cost: $55 per person | Register HERE
Heartsaver CPR AED is geared for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion card, valid for two years. Please contact your employer to ensure that you are selecting the correct course.

American Heart Association BLS Provider CPR
Cost: $55 per person | Register HERE
Open to any person wishing to obtain CPR Certification from the American Heart Association, including healthcare workers. The class covers BLS (Basic Life Support) for adults, children, and infants. Training includes high-quality CPR for adults, children, & infants, the AHA chain of survival, important early use of the AED, ventilations using a barrier device (postponed due to COVID), importance of teams, relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) in adults and infants. Follows American Heart Association 2020 Guidelines.

American Heart Association Friends and Family CPR
Cost: Free | Register HERE
This class is a basic first aid and CPR class, You will not leave with a CPR certification. You will learn what to do before first responders arrive if there is a medical emergency in your home.

The Cy-Fair Fire Department (CFFD) provides professional fire and emergency medical services to the citizens of Northwest Harris County. From its beginnings in the late 1950's, the Cy-Fair FD is now one of the largest, busiest combination fire departments in the United States, with over 26,000 emergency responses each year. Cy-Fair FD covers the 164 square mile area of Harris County Emergency Services District #9 (HCESD9) in the unincorporated part of Northwest Harris County. Over 350 men and women of the fire department respond from thirteen stations strategically located throughout the territory.

While You're Here...

On November 8, the Cy-Fair Fire Department will host a blood drive at their Administration Building in honor of Grayson Smith, the 10 year-old son of a CFFD member.

Grayson is preparing for open-heart surgery after undergoing several major procedures due to a congenital heart defect. During this upcoming procedure, he will be on the heart-lung by-pass machine for several hours, and he may need additional blood as part of his medical treatment at Texas Children's Hospital.
