Cy-Fair Fire Department Seeking Volunteer Firefighters

December 16 2022

Cy-Fair Fire Department is accepting applications for the position of Volunteer Firefighter.

ANSWER THE CALL

Every day, Cy-Fair Fire Department volunteer firefighters answer the call of our families, friends, and neighbors who need assistance. Volunteer Firefighters are a special type of people, with many different reasons for answering the call of duty. Some like the challenges and the adrenaline rush, while others like to sharpen their emergency skills and techniques. Every one of them volunteers to help someone in need.

Serving your community as a volunteer firefighter provides our Cy-Fair citizens with a valuable service and can bring personal rewards as well; including personal growth, the development of leadership skills, and a tremendous sense of accomplishment for a job well done. From car accidents to house fires, firefighters are there to protect our lives and property.

Some of the benefits of serving as a volunteer for the Cy-Fair Fire Department include:

  • Training in firefighting and medical rescue
  • Opportunity to give back to the community
  • Flexibility in choosing when to respond to calls
  • Admiration and respect from citizens
  • Sense of pride and accomplishment
  • Inspiration to family and peers
  • Veterans can find the camaraderie they miss from their service branch
  • Unique experiences and a worldwide brotherhood deeply rooted in tradition

TYPES OF MEMBERSHIP

Firefighting (No Experience Required)

The Cy-Fair Fire Department provides Fire Suppression, Fire Education, Extrication, Emergency Medical First Response, Hazardous Materials Response, Water Rescue and Technical Rescue Services to the 164 sq. miles of the Cy-Fair Community.  Volunteer firefighters have always been an integral part of the Cy-Fair Fire Department since its creation in the early 1950’s.  Now, Volunteer Firefighters serve alongside full and part-time suppression and EMS personnel.

Support Services (No Experience Required)
Beyond firefighting and emergency medical services, we also provide Support Services to our membership. During those extended medicals calls, late night house fires, or incidents in the summer heat, our department dispatches personnel to ensure the proper hydration and wellbeing of our firefighters and EMS personnel. This is a wonderful way for citizens, young and old, to participate alongside the firefighters and EMS personnel.  In addition to supporting Department personnel on responses and training, the Auxiliary hosts several events supporting our members and their children throughout the year.

TRAINING

Members who are 18 years of age and older and who do not have a TCFP or SFFMA FFII certification will complete a rigorous Fire Training Academy (FTA) learning appropriate strategies and tactics to ensure personal safety when participating at a Fire Scene/Incident. The FTA is approximately 32 weeks long with graduates achieving the State Firefighters and Fire Marshals’ Association (SFFMA) Firefighter II Certification; which can be used to challenge the test for Texas Commission of Fire Protection (TCFP) Firefighter Basic exam.  Members who do not hold a DSHS EMS certification will also complete an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) class.

Fast Track Program
Those applying to the Volunteer Fast Track Program must possess a TCFP Basic Firefighter or a SFFMA FFII certification.  This group of personnel will be evaluated by the Training Department to determine which portions of the Fire Training Academy will be exempted.
