Cy-Fair Fire Department Honors 27 Members in Badge Pinning Ceremony
The Cy-Fair Fire Department (CFFD) recognized the dedication and service of its members during a special badge pinning ceremony on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Cy-Ranch High School. The event marked a significant milestone for 27 firefighters, paramedics, and dispatchers who were promoted to new ranks within the department.
Recognizing Service and Commitment
The ceremony honored members promoted to the ranks of District Chief, Captain, Lieutenant, Driver Operator, Paramedic P2, Paramedic, and Senior Dispatcher. In addition, the department welcomed newly hired Firefighter/EMTs and Dispatchers. The badge pinning is a long-standing tradition in the fire service, symbolizing the trust placed in each individual as they take on greater responsibilities in serving their community.
Traditionally, a family member, friend, or colleague has the honor of pinning the badge, signifying their unwavering support and the collective spirit of the firefighting community.
“Their relentless pursuit of excellence and unwavering spirit make us all proud,” said Amy Ramon, CFFD Fire Chief.

A Time-Honored Tradition in the Fire Service
The badge pinning ceremony is an honored tradition that celebrates career achievements in the presence of family, friends, and colleagues. The fire service is not just a job—it is a calling that requires immense dedication, training, and sacrifice. Promotions within the department come with greater responsibilities, as firefighters and paramedics are tasked with protecting the community and leading their fellow first responders.
“The general public is usually not aware of the sacrifices and commitment it takes to enter the fire service, and to promote within the service is even more challenging,” said Eddie Cruz, PIO for CFFD. “Doing this as a career comes with a lot of responsibility and an even greater one when you promote to higher ranks. You are tasked with the safety of the community and the personnel under your command, which requires countless hours of training and education.”
The Role of Cy-Fair Fire Department in the Community
The Cy-Fair Fire Department provides professional fire and emergency medical services to the residents of Northwest Harris County. Established in the late 1950s, CFFD has grown to become one of the largest and busiest combination fire departments in the United States, responding to over 26,000 emergency calls annually.
With 13 strategically located fire stations covering a 164-square-mile area under Harris County Emergency Services District Number 9 (HCESD9), the department’s 350+ firefighters and EMTs are among the most highly trained and well-equipped in the nation. In January 2025 alone, CFFD responded to 243 fire incidents, 2,677 EMS incidents, and 2,920 total emergency calls.
HCESD9, established in 1984, is a political subdivision of the State of Texas that provides funding for fire suppression and emergency medical services through a taxing district. Governed by an elected board of five commissioners, the district ensures that Cy-Fair FD has the resources needed to protect its community.

Looking to the Future
As Cypress continues to grow, so do the demands on emergency services. In response, HCESD9 is expanding its fire station coverage to better serve the community. Plans include contracting architectural and engineering design services for up to eight new fire and EMS stations. The first phase of the project, which is currently underway, involves hiring an architectural team and a Construction Manager at Risk (CMaR) to develop construction documents (CDs) and establish a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for approval.
Each new station will be designed to meet the evolving needs of first responders, with an estimated construction cost for each station at $15 million. These additions aim to enhance emergency response times and provide modern, functional facilities for first responders, ensuring they have the resources needed to continue serving the Cypress community effectively.
