Cy-Fair Fire Department Celebrates Grand Openings of Stations 1 and 6 with Community

May 19 2025

With live fire demos and the proud unveiling of its newest fire engine, the Cy-Fair Fire Department (CFFD) officially celebrated the grand opening of Stations 1 and 6—two state-of-the-art facilities now fully operational and serving northwest Harris County. The milestone was marked with a community event and ribbon-cutting ceremony at Station 6 on Saturday, May 17, 2025, drawing residents eager to explore the latest additions to Cy-Fair’s emergency services infrastructure.

Located at 12344 West Little York Road, Station 6 welcomed families for a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of modern firefighting. The event included live fire extinguisher demonstrations, rappelling exercises from the training tower, and a dramatic forcible entry door demo. Children enjoyed the spray house, face painting, and a balloon artist, while educational booths on CPR, smoke detectors, and fire safety rounded out the interactive experience.

Earlier this year, Station 1—now located at 8520 Country View Drive—quietly opened its doors on February 22, 2025, replacing its older facility on Rodney Ray Boulevard. Together, these two projects reflect a long-term investment in the safety, speed, and service of the Cy-Fair community.

Serving One of the Nation’s Largest Fire Protection Districts

The opening of Stations 1 and 6 comes at a critical time for the Cy-Fair Fire Department, which operates under Harris County Emergency Services District No. 9 (HCESD 9). CFFD is one of the largest combination fire departments in the United States, blending the strength of both full-time and volunteer personnel.

Spanning more than 164 square miles, the department provides fire protection and emergency medical services to a population exceeding 660,000 residents—a number that continues to grow alongside Cy-Fair’s booming development. With the addition of these new facilities, CFFD now manages operations out of 13 active fire stations, each positioned to reduce response times and enhance regional coverage across Cypress, parts of northwest Houston, and surrounding unincorporated areas of Harris County.

In 2024 alone, CFFD responded to tens of thousands of emergency calls, demonstrating the vital role the department plays in protecting homes, businesses, schools, and major roadways in one of the busiest suburban corridors in Texas.

Modern Facilities Built for Growth and Training

The construction of Stations 1 and 6 was funded through the district’s FY 2021-22 budget, which allocated $28.4 million toward capital expenditures out of a record $78.1 million total budget. These investments were designed to replace aging infrastructure and provide enhanced living quarters, training areas, and response capabilities for firefighters and EMS professionals.

Station 6, which replaced the former station on North Eldridge Parkway, spans 20,400 square feet and was built at a projected cost of $9.6 million. Construction began in June 2022, and the new facility is now equipped for modern emergency operations and training exercises.

Station 1, designed by Martinez Architects, features four drive-through apparatus bays, room for 16 personnel, a 25-person training classroom, tiered seating in the day room, and an outdoor patio to accommodate the rigorous demands of 24/7 shift work. Originally estimated at $6.7 million, the project faced delays due to weather and material shortages but ultimately opened earlier this year.

A Celebration with the Community

The ribbon-cutting event at Station 6 brought together the very people the department serves—residents of all ages, local leaders, and first responders. Guests were among the first to see Engine 6, the department’s newest fire engine, on public display. Firefighters and EMS professionals led station tours, answered questions about emergency services, and posed for photo opportunities with wide-eyed children and curious adults.

The day’s activities emphasized both education and appreciation, reinforcing the department’s ongoing commitment to community outreach and transparency.

A Safer, More Connected Future

As Cy-Fair continues to grow, so too does the need for robust, well-equipped public safety infrastructure. With the official opening of Stations 1 and 6, the Cy-Fair Fire Department is better positioned than ever to meet that demand—reducing response times, improving firefighter readiness, and strengthening bonds with the community it serves.

These stations are more than just buildings—they’re symbols of progress, protection, and partnership.
