Cy-Fair Fire Chief Amy Ramon Honored by State Representative Mike Schofield for Prestigious Award
Cy-Fair Fire Department Chief Amy Ramon received special recognition from State Representative Mike Schofield of District 132, who presented her with a resolution congratulating her on being named Fire Chief of the Year by the Texas Fire Chiefs Association (TFCA). The event, held at the Cy-Fair Fire Department’s administration building, celebrated a historic achievement as Ramon became the first woman to earn this prestigious title.
“It was an honor to host Representative Schofield and showcase our facilities while discussing the initiatives that support our community,” said Leah Gowin, Director of Marketing and Community Outreach for Cy-Fair Fire Department.
The resolution highlighted Ramon’s groundbreaking contributions to fire service, particularly her leadership in transforming Cy-Fair Fire Department into one of the largest and busiest combination fire departments in the nation. With over 38,000 emergency responses annually, the department now operates with a mix of full-time, part-time, and volunteer firefighters—a shift implemented under Ramon’s guidance.

A Trailblazer in the Fire Service
Chief Ramon’s journey began over 34 years ago when she joined the fire service as a 20-year-old volunteer. Her unwavering dedication propelled her through the ranks, culminating in her appointment as Fire Chief in 2014. Alongside her fire service career, Ramon has also worked as an attorney and financial expert, bringing a unique perspective to her role.
Colleagues and peers have praised Ramon for her exceptional leadership and commitment to fostering a supportive and effective team. Brent Scalise, Chief of Operations for Cy-Fair Fire Department, remarked, “Amy could have chosen any number of paths in the private sector, but her love for this profession and its people won out, and we are grateful for that.”
District Chief Nick Buonarosa echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the challenges Ramon has overcome in a traditionally male-dominated field. “Being a woman in a predominantly male profession can’t be easy—and leading those men and women the way she does would be hard for anyone to accomplish. She thinks about everyone who is impacted by the decisions she makes, and it shows,” he said.
Recognition for Outstanding Leadership
In accepting the TFCA award, Ramon expressed gratitude to her team and the community. “I’m beyond thrilled with this recognition,” she said. “But mostly I’m grateful: for the frontline responders who save lives, the leaders who give their all, the commissioners who’ve made sure our crews have fair compensation and the best equipment, and the community that supports us every step along the way.”
State Representative Schofield’s resolution further underscores the significance of Ramon’s achievements, not only as a leader within the Cy-Fair Fire Department but also as a trailblazer in the broader firefighting community.

The recognition of Chief Amy Ramon as Fire Chief of the Year is a milestone for the firefighting profession, highlighting her exemplary leadership and the progress being made in fostering inclusivity in public safety roles.
