Cy-Fair CERT Class 40 Completes Disaster Preparedness Course

October 12 2023

The Cy-Fair CERT Class 40 wrapped up last Tuesday, with community members completing the course and having a small celebration after their final exercise.

This free, 8-week course gives participants an understanding and preparation on how to help their community and loved ones when disaster strikes. The course covered disaster preparedness, fire safety, medical, search and rescue, phycology, terrorism, and hazard planning. This installment began on August 22 and was held once a week on Tuesday nights at the Cy-Fair Emergency Services Education Center, located at 18132 West Road in Cypress.

As with each CERT class, participants received a class manual and backpack with starter supplies during the first session, including a hardhat and safety vest. Upon graduation, participants received a certificate and official CERT ID badge. To date, over 500 citizens in the Bear Creek, Bridgeland, Coles Crossing, Copperfield, Fairfield, Towne Lake and neighboring Cy-Fair communities have taken this training with Cy-Fair CERT.

Cy-Fair CERT aims to provide survival and rescue skills to help citizens help each other until emergency services personnel arrive. To learn more about Cy-Fair CERT, including updates about their Spring 2024 course, please visit their Facebook page.
