Cy Creek Flag Subscription Program Gives Champions Park Residents a Patriotic Way to Support Local Student Athletes

For many families across Champions Park, seeing rows of American flags lining neighborhood streets on national holidays has become more than a tradition — it has become a visible reminder of community pride, service and local support for student programs at Cypress Creek High School.

The Cypress Creek High School Athletic Booster Club is once again offering its annual USA Flag Subscription program, giving residents and businesses within the Cy Creek High School attendance zone an opportunity to display American flags at their homes or storefronts while helping fund booster club initiatives throughout the year.

The subscription program, which began with the Cy Creek Band in 2011 before transitioning to the Cy Creek Athletic Booster Club in 2020, continues to serve neighborhoods throughout the area with coordinated flag placements on six major patriotic holidays annually.

For a $60 annual subscription fee, booster club volunteers place a large American flag in front of participating homes or businesses during designated holidays, including Veterans Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Patriot Day.

Organizers noted that although Memorial Day has passed, residents can still sign up for the remaining holidays in the current subscription cycle. The annual subscription period begins on Veterans Day and runs through Patriot Day each year.

More Than a Neighborhood Tradition

Across Northwest Houston communities, the sight of synchronized American flags displayed curbside has become a recognizable part of holiday celebrations. For many residents, the program offers a simple way to participate in patriotic observances without the need to purchase, install or store large outdoor flags themselves.

The fundraiser also directly benefits Cypress Creek High School athletics and booster club programs, helping support student activities and initiatives throughout the school year.

According to the booster club, volunteers install a small sleeve near the curb line at each participating property. The sleeve sits below the grass line to avoid interfering with lawn maintenance, while a small curb marker identifies the placement location for future flag installations.

On designated holidays, volunteers place the flags early in the day and later retrieve them once the holiday concludes.

The service area is limited exclusively to addresses located within the Cypress Creek High School attendance zone.

Weather and Safety Considerations

Program organizers emphasized that safety remains the top priority during severe weather events. In the event of hazardous conditions, flags may not be placed. The organization noted that cancellations have only occurred a handful of times over the years, primarily during hurricane-related weather events.

Residents who subscribe after Veterans Day should note that subscription pricing is not prorated for missed holidays.

The booster club also reminds participants that while U.S. Flag Code recommends proper illumination of flags displayed at night, lighting is not included with the subscription service. Residents who wish to illuminate their flags may add their own solar lighting or temporarily bring the flag indoors overnight before returning it outside the following morning.

A Visible Investment in Community Pride

Programs like the Cy Creek flag fundraiser often become woven into the identity of a neighborhood over time. Beyond supporting student athletes, the coordinated displays help create a shared sense of community during national holidays — something many residents say adds a meaningful touch to neighborhood streets throughout the year.

As Independence Day and Patriot Day approach later this summer, residents still interested in joining the program are encouraged to register before upcoming holiday deadlines, which occur two weeks prior to each flag day.

Residents can also report damaged flags or sleeves through the organization’s website.
