Cy Champ PUD Smart Water Meter Replacement Underway in Champions Park: What Residents Should Know About Temporary Water Shutoffs

March 10 2026

Residents in Champions Park may notice brief water interruptions over the coming months as a neighborhood-wide water meter replacement project moves forward. The initiative, led by Cy Champ Public Utility District (Cy Champ PUD) and managed by Eagle Water Management, Inc., officially began in February 2026 and will continue throughout the community as crews work to replace aging residential water meters with new smart water meters.

For homeowners and families across Champions Park, the project represents an important infrastructure upgrade designed to improve water usage accuracy, leak detection, and long-term system reliability.

While the work is relatively quick at each home, the meter replacements will require temporary water shutoffs lasting approximately 15–30 minutes during installation.

Why Champions Park Water Meters Are Being Replaced

Water meters play a critical role in measuring the amount of water delivered to each home. Over time, older meters can become less accurate as internal components wear down.

The new AMI-compatible smart meters being installed throughout Champions Park will provide more precise readings and reduce the need for maintenance or manual meter checks.

For residents, the upgrade also introduces a new level of visibility into daily water use through the EyeOnWater monitoring system, which allows homeowners to track consumption and identify unusual spikes that could signal leaks.

Once installation is complete, residents will have access to:

  • A secure online portal to monitor household water use
  • Easy-to-read usage graphs showing daily and hourly consumption
  • Leak detection alerts that can notify homeowners of unusual activity
  • A smartphone app for monitoring water usage on the go

These tools are designed to help households better understand how much water they use and potentially prevent costly water loss.

What Residents Should Expect During Installation

The replacement process itself is relatively simple and does not require residents to be home.

Crews from Eagle Water Management, working on behalf of Cy Champ PUD, will perform the installations Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.. Workers conducting the upgrades will be in uniform while working in the neighborhood.

During the installation:

  • Water service will be temporarily shut off for approximately 15–30 minutes
  • The existing meter will be removed and replaced with the new smart meter
  • Service will be restored immediately after installation

Because the meter boxes are typically located near the curb or sidewalk, most work can be completed without entering private property.

Important Step After Your Meter Is Installed

After the new meter has been installed and water service is restored, residents are encouraged to flush their water linesbefore regular use.

The recommended process is simple:

  1. Turn on a cold water faucet inside your home for 3–5 minutes, or
  2. Run an outdoor faucet for several minutes

This helps clear any air or sediment that may have entered the line during installation.

Will Water Bills Change?

Some residents may notice changes in their water bills after the new meter is installed.

Older meters can sometimes register usage more slowly as they age. The new smart meters provide more precise readings, meaning water usage will be measured more accurately moving forward.

For many homeowners, the new EyeOnWater monitoring tools will provide greater clarity about daily water consumption and allow households to adjust usage if needed.

What To Do If You Notice a Leak

While installation crews carefully inspect equipment during the replacement process, residents are encouraged to report any issues that appear afterward.

If you notice:

  • A leak at the meter
  • Water pooling near the meter box
  • Unexpected service problems after installation

Residents should contact Eagle Water Management directly at 281-374-8989 so crews can respond quickly.

A Long-Term Infrastructure Upgrade for the Community

Utility infrastructure projects like this one often happen quietly, but they play a critical role in maintaining reliable service for neighborhoods like Champions Park.

By transitioning to smart water meter technology, Cy Champ PUD aims to improve system accuracy, reduce maintenance costs, and give residents modern tools to better understand their household water usage.

The installation work will continue across the community over the next several months as crews move through different sections of the neighborhood.

Residents with questions about the project are encouraged to contact Eagle Water Management at 281-374-8989.
