Comal ISD Approves 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 Academic Calendars, Offering Families Two Years of Planning Power
For the first time in district history, the Comal Independent School District (Comal ISD) Board of Trustees has approved academic calendars two years in advance, offering families and educators added predictability and convenience. At its regular board meeting on January 22, the board adopted both the 2026–2027 and 2027–2028 academic calendars, allowing students, parents, and staff members to plan with more certainty for the upcoming school years.
The move was made with community-wide benefits in mind.
“We were able to adopt a two-year calendar for a few simple, yet crucial reasons: we have an engaged community that deeply cares and is deeply invested in our schools, and we have a current academic calendar (2025-2026) that is effective and popular,” said Dr. Ben Peacock, Director of Secondary Leadership at Comal ISD, who led the calendar development effort.
Both calendars include important dates that families will want to note now:

Community-Centered Planning
The calendar development process began back in September and included input from the District Educational Improvement Council (DEIC), which is made up of administrators, teachers, students, parents, and local business and community leaders. The DEIC plays a critical role in ensuring that the calendar reflects the needs and priorities of the broader Comal County community.
This dual-year approach also gives teachers the ability to better plan their instructional strategies and professional development sessions long-term, enhancing the overall educational experience for students across the district.
By aligning with feedback from families and educators alike, Comal ISD continues to support “Growing Greatness” not just in the classroom but across every facet of school life.
For Comal ISD parents, guardians, and students—from Canyon Lake and Spring Branch to New Braunfels and Bulverde—this new level of transparency and foresight is a welcome step forward.
Both approved calendars are available to view and download on the Comal ISD website.
