Cinco Ranch Branch Library Presents Chicken Big: A Children’s Theater Performance
This month, Cinco Ranch Branch Library, in collaboration with Fort Bend County Libraries’ Summer Reading Challenge, is all set to present an enchanting adaptation of a beloved children's book, Chicken Big. This delightful and highly anticipated performance, taking place on Wednesday, July 10, will begin at 2:00 pm, with a repeated show at 3:00 pm, in the Library's Meeting Room located at 2620 Commercial Center Boulevard in Katy.
Chicken Big, the work of celebrated American author Keith Graves, has been molded into a captivating one-act musical by the performance art team at Books Alive! Hailing from New Orleans, Keith Graves is widely recognized for his eccentric and imaginative storytelling, characteristics that trace back to his grandfather's lively, whimsical tales told during summertime family gatherings.
Chicken Big reinvigorates the timeless tale of “Chicken Little” with an amusing twist. A petite hen lays, not a small egg, but a gargantuan one. From this enormous egg hatches a creature so immense that it confounds the other chickens. The mystery continues until the giant creature's actions lead the chickens to a surprising revelation.
The imaginative performance presented by ARTreach’s Books Alive! program is designed to foster love for reading and stimulate theatrical creativity among children. Over the past twelve years, their mission to inspire through the arts has resulted in performances that not only entertain but also deliver meaningful messages.
The ARTreach’s Books Alive! program also stands by its commitment to social equity, offering artistic experiences that help level the playing field for underserved children in communities marked by poverty. Their goal is to provide access to quality arts programming, which has proven to be an effective tool in promoting advanced reading skills and general literacy.
Catering to children in grades 1-5, Chicken Big's performance at the Cinco Ranch Branch Library promises to be an afternoon filled with laughter and learning, courtesy of Friends of Cinco Ranch Branch Library.
