Cimarron Families Invited to Free Harris County ESD 48 Open House in Katy
For families in Cimarron, the people and equipment behind local emergency response will be a little easier to get to know this month. Harris County Emergency Services District No. 48 is inviting the community inside two of its Katy fire stations for an afternoon built around fire safety, family activities and face-to-face time with local firefighters.
The Harris County ESD 48 Open House will take place Sunday, Oct. 18, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Station 3, 1773 Westgreen Blvd., and Station 5, 21201 Morton Road. Admission is free, and families may attend at either location.
A Closer Look at the Fire Department Serving Cimarron
Because Cimarron is within Harris County ESD 48's service territory, the open house offers residents a chance to meet some of the first responders who serve their area and get a closer look at the resources used when an emergency call comes in.
Fire truck tours are among the day's planned activities, giving children and adults an up-close look at the vehicles they normally see heading down the road with lights flashing. Firefighters will also provide fire safety education, turning the visit into an opportunity for families to learn more about staying safe at home.
For younger visitors, the department is adding plenty of fun to the afternoon. Face painting and balloon art will be available alongside the fire station tours and safety activities, making the event an easy weekend outing for families with children of different ages.
Fire Safety Meets Family Fun
The timing also puts fire prevention in the spotlight during October, a month when fire departments across the country traditionally place added attention on home fire safety and preparedness. For residents, conversations with local firefighters can be a useful reminder to check smoke alarms, talk through family escape plans and make sure children know what to do if a fire occurs.
But the open house is about more than safety lessons. Events like this give neighbors an opportunity to meet first responders outside of an emergency, when there is time for questions, conversations and perhaps a child's first trip inside a fire engine.
For Cimarron families, that personal connection can make a familiar fire truck or station feel a little less anonymous. The firefighters visitors meet on Oct. 18 are part of the local emergency response system residents rely on when something goes wrong.
Two Katy Stations, One Free Community Event
Residents can choose whichever of the two locations is most convenient. HCESD 48 Station 3 is located at 1773 Westgreen Blvd., Katy, TX 77450, while Station 5 is located at 21201 Morton Road, Katy, TX 77449. Activities run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, and there is no admission charge.
With fire trucks to explore, firefighters to meet and activities for the kids, the Harris County ESD 48 Open House offers families a chance to spend a few hours having fun while getting to know the department that helps protect their corner of the Katy area.
