Cimarron Elementary Community Rallies Around Beloved Staff Member During Blood Drive for Ms. Kylie Ard
The Cimarron Elementary community is preparing to come together in a powerful show of support for one of its own as students, parents, teachers, and Cimarron residents rally around Ms. Kylie Ard during a special blood drive on Monday, May 18.
Hosted in partnership with Gulf Coast Blood, the Cimarron Elementary Blood Drive will take place from 2 to 7 p.m. aboard the donor coach at the school, located at 1100 South Peek Road in Katy. Organizers say the event is about more than donating blood — it is about showing love, encouragement, and solidarity for a staff member who has impacted countless children and families.
Ms. Ard, one of Cimarron Elementary’s speech pathologists, was diagnosed with lymphoma in April and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment. According to organizers, she may require blood transfusions during her care journey, making blood donations especially meaningful not only for her, but for patients across the Texas Gulf Coast region.
For many Katy families, Cimarron Elementary is more than just a school campus — it is a close-knit community where teachers and support staff often become trusted and familiar parts of students’ lives. Community members are now being asked to give back in a way that could help save lives.
“One donation can help save multiple lives, and this is a meaningful way to show love and support for Ms. Ard and countless other patients in need,” organizers shared in the community announcement encouraging residents to participate.
In addition to donating blood, supporters are also being encouraged to wear purple on May 18 as a visible sign of encouragement for Ms. Ard and the Ard family.
The blood drive is being coordinated through Gulf Coast Blood’s Commit for Life program, which helps maintain blood supplies for hospitals and patients throughout the region. According to Gulf Coast Blood, all donations collected during the drive will go into the general blood supply serving patients across the Texas Gulf Coast area.
Events like this often become especially important heading into the summer months, when blood donations typically decline while hospital demand remains steady. Medical experts regularly note that trauma patients, cancer patients, surgical patients, and individuals receiving ongoing treatments frequently rely on consistent blood availability.
Successful donors at the May 18 blood drive will also receive an exclusive beach towel while supplies last. Donors can additionally enter for a chance to win tickets to a July international soccer tournament match in Houston through Gulf Coast Blood’s donor rewards program.
Residents interested in donating are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance through the Commit for Life registration page.
