Fulshear HS Cheerleaders Win First Runner Up in UIL Spirit State Championship
Soaring to new heights, the cheer program at LCISD's Fulshear High School lead by coaches Tara Smith and Brittany Morton, have reason to cheer after winning 2nd place in Class 5A UIL Spirit State Championship. The team also brought home an award for best Fight Song.
"We set a goal to earn a medal this year and all the work was so worth it in that moment," Tara Smith, Fulshear cheer coach, said.
The 2023 Conference UIL Spirit State Championship, which took place in Fort Worth, focuses on crowd leading, technical skills and execution in the game-day presentation format. With over 70 teams in their division alone, it is one of the largest cheer competitions in the state. Teams compete to earn a spot in finals, which includes the top 20 teams in the division.
"When they started to announce top 10 and they got to the 4th place team and it wasn't us announced; reality set in that we were going to get a medal," stated Coach Smith.
This is the first medal placement for LCISD at UIL Spirit State Championships. The cheer program at Fulshear High School is making great strides in putting Fulshear, Texas on the map.
