Champions Park Volunteer Megan Senkel Named First Recipient of the Brian Menzie Memorial Award

June 17 2026

Some of the most important people in youth sports never step onto the starting block. They show up early, stay late, fill in wherever help is needed, and make sure every swimmer has the support they need to succeed.

That's why the Champions Park Stars Swim Team recently recognized longtime volunteer Megan Senkel as the first-ever recipient of the Brian Menzie Memorial Award. For the past eight years, Senkel has been a steady presence within the Champions Park swim community, spending countless hours helping coaches during practices, supporting swimmers of all ages, and pitching in behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly.

Families who have spent time around the pool know that swim meets and practices don't happen without volunteers. In addition to assisting at practices, Senkel has become one of the team's most dependable Ready Bench volunteers, helping organize swimmers and keep meets moving efficiently throughout the season. Her willingness to help wherever needed has made her a trusted member of the Champions Park Stars family and someone many parents and swimmers have come to rely on.

The award itself carries special meaning. Created in honor of Brian Menzie, whose years of service helped shape the Champions Park Stars program, the recognition celebrates individuals who demonstrate the same spirit of dedication, teamwork, and selfless volunteerism. Team leaders shared that Senkel's commitment to the swimmers and families of Champions Park made her a natural choice to become the inaugural recipient.

For a neighborhood built on strong connections and community involvement, the recognition is about more than a single award. It's a reminder that programs like the Champions Park Stars thrive because of people who quietly give their time and energy to help others. As another swim season wraps up, Megan Senkel's recognition highlights the volunteers whose efforts often go unseen but whose impact is felt throughout the entire Champions Park community.
