Champions Park Residents Create Friendship Bracelets for Hill Country Flood Victims and First Responders

July 16 2025

On Friday, July 11, the Champions Park community gathered for an evening of compassion and creativity, making friendship bracelets for those affected by the devastating Texas Hill Country floods. Organized by the Looper family, the event provided bracelet supplies, pizza, and snacks, creating a welcoming environment for neighbors of all ages to come together and support a cause close to home.

The bracelets—colorful, handmade tokens of care—are being sent to campers and first responders impacted by the catastrophic flooding that struck Central Texas on July 4, 2025. In what has become one of the deadliest natural disasters in Texas history, torrential rains overwhelmed the region, particularly along the Guadalupe River near Kerr County. Some areas received more than 20 inches of rain in just a few hours, causing rivers to surge rapidly and sweep away homes, vehicles, and entire campgrounds.

Among the hardest-hit areas was Camp Mystic, a well-known summer camp for girls, where floodwaters rose so swiftly that counselors and campers had little time to evacuate. The tragedy claimed dozens of lives, with more than 100 people still missing across the region as of mid-July. First responders from across Texas and beyond launched extensive search and rescue operations, often navigating treacherous floodwaters by airboat or helicopter.

Moved by the scale of the disaster and the emotional toll it has taken on survivors, the Looper family wanted to do something tangible to show support. Their bracelet-making event became a powerful expression of love and solidarity. Each bracelet was crafted with intention—meant not only as a gesture of comfort but also as a reminder that people across Texas are thinking of those impacted and standing with them in spirit.

The outpouring of support from the Champions Park neighborhood is a poignant example of how small acts of kindness can ripple outward in times of crisis. As the Hill Country continues to recover, efforts like these offer hope and healing—one bracelet at a time.
