CFISD Water Polo Seasons Concludes with Three Regional Finalists
Oct. 25, 2022 — Three CFISD water polo teams reached their respective regional championship games of the Class 6A playoffs, with each finishing as a regional finalist. Those finishes concluded a historic season for CFISD in the inaugural UIL water polo season in which 16 boys’ and girls’ teams advance to the postseason and 11 won at least one playoff game.
The Cypress Ranch girls’ water polo team poses following the Region II-6A championship game. The Mustangs beat Friendswood in the regional semifinals before they were defeated by Brazoswood in the regional final. They were among three CFISD teams to reach their respective regional championship games.
Bridgeland was defeated by Brazoswood, 9-5, in the regional semifinals. The Bears were District 16-6A champions and finished as regional finalists.
The Cypress Creek High School boys’ and girls’ teams advanced to the Region III-6A Tournament, held Oct. 22 at the CFISD Natatorium. The girls advanced to the championship game following a 21-4 win over Round Rock in the regional semifinals. The Cougars were defeated by Richmond Foster, 11-6, in the region final. They were District 17-6A champions and finished as regional finalists.
The Cypress Creek boys’ team defeated Austin High School, 23-6, in the regional semifinals to advance to the regional final. The Cougars were defeated by Richmond Foster, 10-7, in the championship game. They were District 17-6A champions and finished as regional finalists.
Nine different CFISD schools advanced teams to the UIL postseason. Three teams earned a bye in the bi-district round, 11 advanced to the area round and nine reached the regional quarterfinals.
