CFISD Superintendent’s Fun Run Draws Thousands, Raises $95,000 for Student Scholarships Across Cy-Fair

What started as a morning of movement and community spirit is now making a lasting impact on students across Cy-Fair ISD.

The 12th annual CFISD Superintendent’s Fun Run, held March 28 at the Berry Center and Cy-Fair FCU Stadium, brought together thousands of students, parents, educators and residents—ultimately raising $95,000 for student scholarships through the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF).

For families across Northwest Houston, that number represents more than a fundraising milestone. It translates directly into scholarships that help graduating seniors pursue college, trade school or career training—something many families in the fast-growing Cy-Fair area are increasingly relying on.

More Than a Race: A Reflection of Cy-Fair’s Growth and Values

With approximately 5,000 participants attending in person—and another 3,000 community members supporting through a “sleep-in pass” option—this year’s turnout reflects both the size and engagement of the Cy-Fair community.

The event featured a 5K race through Towne Lake and Lone Star College–CyFair, along with a 1-mile family-friendly route inside Cy-Fair FCU Stadium, where participants were greeted by student spirit groups, inflatable tunnels and cheering teams.

For many families, it wasn’t about finishing times—it was about showing up together.

“This year’s Fun Run was a phenomenal event,” said Dr. Doug Killian, CFISD superintendent of schools. “Thanks to all the participants, volunteers, donors and students, we were able to raise $95,000 towards scholarships for our students. I am so thankful to be involved in such an amazing community event with such great support for our students.”

Students Take Center Stage—On and Off the Course

What made the event distinctly Cy-Fair wasn’t just the scale—it was the student presence woven into every part of the morning.

More than 700 student volunteers helped run the event, while dozens of student performance groups from across the district kept the energy high. Elementary choirs, dance teams, cheer squads and high school performers rotated throughout the event, creating a steady rhythm of school pride.

From the Cypress Falls High School Sky Dancers to elementary groups like the Postma Elementary Puma Choir and Rennell Elementary dance teams, the performances turned the event into a district-wide showcase of talent.

The result was something that felt less like a race and more like a celebration of the district itself.

Why This Fundraising Matters for Cy-Fair Families

As one of the largest and fastest-growing school districts in Texas, Cy-Fair ISD continues to see rising enrollment and increasing demand for post-secondary opportunities.

That growth brings both opportunity and financial pressure for families preparing for life after high school.

The funds raised through the Superintendent’s Fun Run go directly to the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation, which provides scholarships to graduating seniors—helping bridge the gap between ambition and affordability.

Events like this play a critical role in ensuring that students across Cy-Fair—regardless of background—have access to continued education.

“Our 12th Superintendent’s Fun Run truly showed why CFISD is on The Path to Amazing,” said Dawn Tryon, director of community engagement. “We had 80 business partners and thousands of community members, employees, parents and students all together to not only participate in a fun-filled community event, but to also support student scholarships through the CFEF. We are thrilled to have presented a $95,000 check to the CFEF to help support our seniors at the next stop on their educational path.”

A Day Built Around Health, Connection and Community Pride

Beyond the race itself, the event created a space where families could spend the morning together—something increasingly valued in a region as busy and rapidly expanding as Northwest Houston.

Food trucks, vendor booths, a children’s play area and community organizations lined the event grounds, while local groups and businesses helped create an atmosphere focused on wellness, connection and support.

“It’s great to see everybody come together, and that’s really what it’s about – building that community,” said Angela Robles, senior marketing specialist for Memorial Hermann. “We can all be inclusive, positive and create a healthy way of living. A lot of people maybe made a goal at the beginning of the year, and they’re seeing that come to fruition this year with a walk or a run and we’re really happy to be a part of that.”

What Happens Next for Cy-Fair Students

With $95,000 now committed to scholarships, the impact of the 2026 Superintendent’s Fun Run will extend well beyond race day.

In the coming months, graduating seniors across Cy-Fair ISD will apply for and receive scholarships funded in part by this event—helping them take their next steps into college classrooms, technical programs and career pathways.

For the broader Cy-Fair community, the event serves as a reminder of what’s possible when a growing district rallies around its students—not just in the classroom, but in the moments that shape their future.
