CFISD Seeks Community Volunteers for Bus Buddies Program to Ensure Safe Commutes for Young Students
The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (CFISD) is gearing up for the new school year, and they need the community's help to ensure a smooth start for their youngest bus riders. The district's Bus Buddies program is calling for volunteers to commit their time on August 19-20, 2024, and assist with afternoon routes.
The Bus Buddies endeavor is a partnership between the community and the district, designed to provide additional support to elementary students during their home commute. The role of a Bus Buddy is to ensure that these young riders are able to safely exit the bus at their correct stops. Community leaders, local business representatives and individuals are invited offer their time and support to make the Bus Buddy program a success.
The program requires at least one volunteer per elementary bus for the first two days of school. Potential Bus Buddies have the option to register for one day or both. The time commitment is generally round two hours, and to ensure the comfort of the volunteers, rest assured that all CFISD buses are air-conditioned.

Upon volunteering, individuals should report to their selected campus 20 minutes before dismissal time and sign in at the front office. A driver’s license is required for the sign in process. To guide volunteers throughout the process, campus staff will be made available for any questions, will provide necessary instructions, and will assign the bus for the buddy duties.
The Bus Buddies program not only offers a practical solution to ensuring the safe travel of elementary students, but it also gives the community an opportunity to support local youth as they kick off the new school year. Community members interested in making a positive impact on the start of the new school year can register to become a Bus Buddy here.
