CFISD Runners Qualify for Cross Country State Championships
The Bridgeland High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams, as well as Cypress Springs High School senior Manny Vela, qualified for the UIL Cross Country State Championships at the Region II-6A Cross Country Championships, held Oct. 24 at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.
The Bridgeland boys won the Region II-6A title with an overall score of 88 with junior Benjamin Montgomery leading the way finishing first overall (15:20.01). Also running for the Bears were sophomore Kyle Pawlak (19th, 16:13.60), sophomore Maddox McCallister (20th, 16:14.90), sophomore Vihaan Chamkur (22nd, 16:19.59), sophomore Mazim Benguedda (26th, 16:22.75), senior Hayden Price (32nd, 16:30.23) and sophomore Layton Carlisle (48th, 16:46.36).
The Bridgeland girls placed third as a team at the regional championships with an overall score of 101. JuniorLily Fawcett led the Bears finishing eighth overall (18:52.63). Also running for the Bears were sophomore Haley Hill (12th, 19:05.48), sophomore Susana Rawls (25th, 19:38.16), freshman Brynlee Weston (34th, 19:58.92), freshman Kate Garrison (36th, 20:01.67), senior Ariel Braley (45th, 20:14.94) and senior Arianna Elder (56th, 20:31.66).
Cypress Springs senior Manny Vela is the only individual CFISD runner to qualify for the UIL Cross Country State Championships. Vela finished second overall (15:26.34).
The UIL Cross Country State Championships will be held Nov. 3-4 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
