CFISD Celebrates Future Educators with Annual Signing Day
CFISD high school students enrolled in Education and Training Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses were recognized at the third annual Future Educators Signing Day event on April 30 at the Berry Center.
Lauren Womack, Bridgeland High School senior and Education and Training program student, opened the ceremony. CFISD Superintendent Dr. Doug Killian also congratulated students on their accomplishments and their commitment to the field of education. Cy-Fair High School Teacher of the Year Jessica Smith ended the ceremony with words of encouragement for future educators.
Upon successful completion of program requirements, students enrolled in Education and Training CTE courses received a CFISD letter of intent. The letter of intent guarantees students an interview for a paraprofessional, Club Rewind or certified teaching positions in the district.
“These students have made a commitment to the field of education at an early age and we want to celebrate the start of their journey towards the classroom,” said Greg Lozano, CFISD assistant director of professional staffing. “This past year reflects the start of their journey to become a classroom teacher and we are excited about their future. The students have worked tirelessly developing skills that will help them create a safe, inclusive, collaborative and student-centered environment that will aid in the development of 21st-century global leaders.”
High school students can choose between two programs of study: Teaching and Training and Early Learning. Each program of study requires a specific set of courses that focus on planning, managing, and providing education and training services in an educational setting. Students will also receive a Public Services endorsement after completion of the Education and Training program.
“Since completing the program I’ve learned how to work with students who learn in different ways and this is something I would recommend to anyone that wants to work with children in any capacity,” said Allison Barstow, Bridgeland High School senior. “The curriculum teaches you how to work with different students, how to accommodate different disabilities and how to teach students to have a growth mindset. I’m always going to be grateful to the Education and Training program and Ms. Morgan, our wonderful teacher.”
A total of 217 CFISD students qualified for the letter of intent this year. 166 of those students are graduating seniors.
