Cavender's Setting Up Shop at The Rim Store With $1.55 Million Renovation Project in San Antonio

San Antonio / New Braunfels  /  San Antonio / New Braunfels
June 12 2026

Shoppers at The Rim in San Antonio will soon have another destination for boots, western fashion, and workwear as Cavender's moves forward with plans for a new San Antonio location at one of the city's most active retail corridors.

According to state construction filings, Cavender's is planning a $1.55 million renovation project at The Rim, located at 5819 Worth Parkway in San Antonio. Construction is scheduled to begin June 29, 2026, with completion anticipated by Sept. 26, 2026.

For residents of Northwest San Antonio and the rapidly growing Interstate 10 corridor, the project represents another investment in a shopping destination that continues to attract major retailers, restaurants, and entertainment venues serving families from across Bexar County.

Renovation Planned for More Than 28,000 Square Feet

The project will renovate an existing 28,242-square-foot retail space within The Rim.

Plans call for new floor and wall finishes, updated exterior signage and decorative elements, new fixtures, demolition of select interior partitions, and construction of new walls. Existing utilities will remain in place as part of the renovation.

While the filing identifies the project as a renovation of an existing mercantile space rather than new construction, the investment signals Cavender's commitment to establishing a substantial footprint at the popular San Antonio retail center.

A Texas Company With Deep Western Roots

For many Texans, Cavender's is much more than a familiar name.

The family-owned company traces its roots to 1965, when James Cavender opened the first Cavender's store in Pittsburg, Texas. What began as a small East Texas operation has grown into one of the nation's largest western apparel retailers.

Today, Cavender's operates more than 100 stores across multiple states, offering western boots, cowboy hats, denim, workwear, ranch apparel, western fashion, accessories, and outdoor gear for men, women, and children.

The retailer carries a mix of nationally recognized brands alongside exclusive Cavender's labels, serving everyone from ranchers and rodeo competitors to families looking for western-inspired style. Its extensive boot selection and focus on western heritage have helped distinguish the company in a competitive retail market.

Strengthening Cavender's Presence in San Antonio

The new location will add to Cavender's growing presence throughout the San Antonio area.

The retailer already operates several stores across the region, including locations on Interstate 35, Northwest Loop 410, and other major commercial corridors. The addition of a store at The Rim places the brand in one of the city's fastest-growing retail districts, drawing shoppers from communities throughout Northwest San Antonio, Boerne, Leon Springs, Helotes, and surrounding areas.

Located near La Cantera, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and numerous residential developments, The Rim has become a regional shopping destination that attracts both local residents and visitors.

The addition of another established Texas retailer also reflects continued confidence in San Antonio's retail market, even as consumer shopping habits continue to evolve.

Why It Matters for Local Shoppers

New retail investments often signal more than just another storefront opening.

For residents, projects like this can bring additional shopping choices closer to home while helping strengthen commercial activity in one of the city's busiest retail centers. The renovation also represents continued reinvestment in existing retail spaces rather than leaving vacancies unfilled.

As San Antonio continues to grow, retailers are increasingly seeking locations that can serve both longtime residents and the thousands of new families moving to the area each year. The Rim's combination of accessibility, surrounding residential growth, and established customer traffic has made it one of the region's most sought-after retail destinations.

What Happens Next

Construction is expected to begin in late June and continue through September. Once complete, the renovated space will welcome a new Cavender's location offering the western apparel, boots, workwear, and lifestyle products that have made the Texas-based retailer a recognizable name for more than six decades.

For shoppers who appreciate western heritage, ranch-inspired fashion, or durable work apparel, the project marks another addition to San Antonio's growing retail landscape.

Residents can expect to see construction activity at The Rim throughout the summer as work progresses toward the planned fall completion date.
