Cast a Line at These Cypress Area Lakes

November 14 2023

In October, Harris County Precinct 3 worked in collaboration with a state agency to enhance the beauty and vibrancy of several community parks.

Along with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), Precinct 3 restocked three lakes with catfish, creating new opportunities for everyone to embrace the outdoors. Through this partnership, Precinct 3 received 2,000 catfish at Deputy Darren Goforth Park Lake, 1,080 catfish at Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve, and 2,000 catfish at Cypress Park Lake.

Channel Catfish are usually stocked once or twice a year during the summer months. Rainbow Trout are introduced in fall, typically in December, and then again in January when water temperatures drop to suitable levels. According to Precinct 3, stocking frequency depends on a survey conducted by TPWD to assess the shortage or surplus of specific fish species. This survey is typically conducted annually, although it may occur less frequently based on the findings of the previous year.

Watch the video below to see the restocking process in action.

The public is invited to pack up their fishing gear and plan a trip to one of these parks. Just keep in mind that anglers visiting Precinct 3 parks are required to follow all state fishing rules and regulations. Round up your loved ones, get outside and enjoy the great outdoors close to home.
