Bridgeland Runners Sweep District 16-6A Cross Country Titles

The Bridgeland High School girls’ and boys’ cross country teams swept the District 16-6A titles at the Cross Country Championships, held Oct. 14 at Spring Creek Park in Tomball. For the Bridgeland girls, this is their fifth straight team championship after capturing consecutive District 14-6A titles in 2018 and 2019, respectively, and the 16-6A crown in 2020 and 2021. For the Bridgeland boys, this is their fourth consecutive team title after placing first in 2019, 2020 and 2021. 
 
The Bridgeland High School boys’ cross country team won the District 16-6A title on Oct. 14 at Spring Creek Park in Tomball. The Bears have won four straight district team championships and will compete at the Region II-6A Cross Country Championships on Oct. 24 at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.
 

In District 17-6A, both the Jersey Village High School girls and boys were the top-finishing teams among CFISD schools at the District 17-6A Cross Country Championships, held Oct. 11 at Spring Creek Park. Both Jersey Village teams placed third in their respective races and qualify for the regional championships for the first time in 20 years.

The top three teams and 10 individuals in each race advance to the regional championships. The Region II-6A Cross Country Championships will be held Oct. 24 at Lynn Creek Park (5610 Lake Ridge Pkwy) in Grand Prairie. The Region III-6A Cross Country Championships will be held Oct. 24 at Kate Barr Ross Memorial Park (486 State Highway 75 N.) in Huntsville.

The Bridgeland girls took seven out of the top 10 spots, earning 15 points. The Bears finished in front of runner-up Cypress Woods High School (64) and third place Cypress Ranch High School (84).

The Bridgeland boys took six out of the top 10 spots, earning the team 24 points. Cypress Ranch placed second (61), followed by Cypress Falls (107).

In District 17-6A, the Jersey Village girls earned 90 points to finish third behind Stratford and Memorial high schools. The Falcons’ score featured junior Anna Selinidis (eighth, 21:24.96), freshman Mia Pena (12th, 22:05.32), senior Gizelle Alize Gonzalez (17th, 22:35.00), junior Katelyn Kelly (25th, 23:40.23), sophomore Raven Cardona (28th, 24:07.47), sophomore Joscelin Topete (36th, 25:32.55) and junior Karla Gutierrez (37th, 25:50.77). Selinidis was the only CFISD female individual runner to qualify for the regional race.

The Falcons qualify for the Region III-6A Cross Country Championships, set for Oct. 24 at Kate Barr Ross Memorial Park in Huntsville.
 
The Jersey Village boys earned 61 points to finish third behind Stratford and Memorial high schools. The Falcons’ score was led by junior Marco Requejo (4th, 17:12.00), followed by junior Jacob Lucia (10th, 17:39.89), junior Marvin Rodriguez (14th, 17:57.74), junior Gerson Gonzales (15th, 18:02.70), sophomore Andrew Ryan (18th, 18:14.09), senior Gabriel Hernandez (26th, 18:59.22) and senior Allen Vallejo (33rd, 19:31.95). Requejo and Lucia were the only two CFISD male individual runners to qualify for the regional race.
