Bridgeland High School art students Shiruixue Fang and Cadence Rogers were selected as semifinalists in the Artist Renewal Center (ARC) International Salon competition. Because of this achievement, their work will be sent to the moon in the Polaris Collection of the Lunar Codex and will be preserved for generations.
The ARC International Salon competition is a prestigious realist art competition that offers more than $100,000 in cash awards and international recognition through partnerships with notable magazines, galleries and museum exhibitions. A high number of applicants and advanced art techniques make this competition rigorous and extensive for art students. The commitment to their craft is evident in both students’ approach to their work.
“This is an astounding accomplishment for these kids,” Nancy Hines, Bridgeland art teacher said. “I am extremely proud.”

From a reference photo to a freehand sketch, these two students utilized their natural talents and precise techniques to create their pieces. Rogers described the process as methodical, requiring both a careful eye and steady hand to bring the initial sketch to life.
“It was just paying attention to detail and putting a lot of time into it,” Rogers said. “I had to accept that it will be ugly before it becomes pretty.”
The ARC and the Lunar Codex will include more than 1,970 images of semifinalists’ artworks from this year’s ARC Salon in its Polaris archive. The archive is targeted to launch in September 2025.
