Bridgeland High School Marching Band Wins Grand Champion at Battle at the Berry Competition

In a stunning display of musical talent and precision, the Bridgeland High School marching band has earned the title of grand champion at the annual Battle at the Berry competition. Held on October 19 at the Cy-Fair FCU Stadium, The Battle at the Berry saw marching bands from across the Houston area vie for supremacy across four classifications based on band size.

The Battle at the Berry categorizes competitors into four classifications based on their size. This year, Bridgeland not only emerged victorious in its classification (Class IV), but it also achieved a clean sweep of all four performance awards.

Reacting to the fantastic accomplishment, Joe Glass, CFISD coordinator of secondary music stated, "I’m incredibly proud of the CFISD marching bands for their outstanding performances at the Battle of the Berry contest. Their dedication, talent and teamwork truly shined, showcasing the spirit and excellence of our community.”

Other notable results from the 2024 Battle at the Berry competition include:

  • Class I: 1st place - Spring Woods High School, 2nd place - Elsik High School, 3rd place - Memorial High School
  • Class II: 1st place - Klein High School, 2nd place - Langham Creek High School, 3rd place - Cypress Springs High School
  • Class III: 1st place - Jordan High School, 2nd place - James E. Taylor High School, 3rd place - William B. Travis High School
  • Class IV: 2nd place - Katy High School, 3rd place - Paetow High School

Bridgeland also dominated the performance awards, clinching outstanding musical performance, outstanding visual performance, outstanding auxiliary and color guard, and outstanding percussion.

Following this wave of success, all 12 CFISD High School marching bands will next compete in the UIL Region 27 Marching Contest, which will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Cy-Fair FCU Stadium. The community is encouraged to come out and support these talented young musicians. Tickets are priced at $10 each and can be purchased online through the CFISD Fine Arts page.
