Bridgeland, Cy-Fair, and Cypress Woods Marching Bands Headed to UIL State Contest

October 30 2025

The beat goes on for Cypress-Fairbanks ISD’s marching band programs, as three of its high school ensembles—Bridgeland, Cy-Fair, and Cypress Woods—are advancing to the prestigious UIL Class 6A State Marching Band Contest in San Antonio. This marks the fourth consecutive year that all three bands will represent CFISD at the state level, continuing a proud tradition of excellence in music education.

The UIL Area I Marching Band Contest, held October 27 at Katy ISD’s Legacy Stadium, featured competitive performances from bands representing Alief, Houston, Katy, Spring Branch, Waller, and Cy-Fair ISDs. All twelve CFISD bands competed, with Bridgeland, Cy-Fair, Cypress Woods, and Langham Creek advancing to finals. Ultimately, five bands were selected to move forward to state—including the three from CFISD.

Bridgeland Continues Championship Streak

For Bridgeland High School, this year’s advancement marks their sixth straight appearance at state, and their third consecutive Area I championship title.

“We are thrilled to advance to the UIL State Marching Contest for the sixth consecutive year,” said Shawn McAnear, Bridgeland head band director. “Our students continue to perform at an exceptional level and this year’s show is truly beautiful. We can’t wait to take the field alongside so many outstanding bands at the Alamodome.”

Cy-Fair Marches to Their Ninth State Appearance

At Cy-Fair High School, students and staff are celebrating their fourth consecutive trip and ninth overall to the state contest—a reflection of their long-standing commitment to musical excellence.

“I am very excited for our students to earn this performance opportunity to represent our campus and community at the state level along with our sister schools,” said John Nelson, Cy-Fair head band director. “Our students strive to be compared among the best at what they do, and it is so rewarding to see our students achieve those goals.”

Cypress Woods and NOVA Color Guard Celebrate Sixth Straight Advancement

Cypress Woods High School will make its sixth consecutive and seventh overall trip to the UIL state contest. With the NOVA Color Guard by their side, the Wildcats are ready to showcase the talent that has become a hallmark of their program.

“The Cypress Woods Marching Band and NOVA Color Guard is grateful for the opportunity to perform at the UIL State Marching Band Contest at the conclusion of our 2025 season,” said T.J. Peterman, Cypress Woods head band director. “Our community and staff are immensely proud of the students, and we look forward to celebrating their amazing work next week in San Antonio. We are proud to be one of many outstanding band programs here in CFISD, and value the strong camaraderie and support shared amongst all our staff and students even more.”

CFISD Bands Shine Across the Board

Though only three CFISD bands advanced to state, all participating schools demonstrated the district’s strength in music education.

“We’re so proud of all our marching bands,” said Joe Glass, CFISD coordinator of secondary music. “They’ve been working since summer to create these exciting, high-energy shows, and it’s awesome to see them recognized among the best in Texas! We can’t wait to see CFISD performing on the field at the UIL State Marching Band Contest!”
