Block Captains: Prepare for National Night Out on Tuesday, October 7
Champions Park is gearing up for National Night Out on Tuesday, October 7, and Block Captains are encouraged to begin planning neighborhood gatherings that bring neighbors together.
What is National Night Out?
National Night Out is a nationwide community-building campaign that takes place annually on the first Tuesday in August in most states (and in October across Texas and other warm-weather areas). The event was launched in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch and has since grown into a tradition involving millions of neighbors across thousands of communities.
The purpose is simple but powerful: strengthen relationships among residents, promote police–community partnerships, and create safer, more caring neighborhoods. Whether through casual meetups, cookouts, or street parties, the focus is on neighbors meeting neighbors and building trust.

Plans for Champions Park
In Champions Park, residents are encouraged to take part in this effort by hosting block-level gatherings. These casual, neighbor-to-neighbor meetups are a proven way to strengthen connections and promote awareness.
Ideas for gatherings include:
- A front-yard meetup with light refreshments
- A potluck on the cul-de-sac
- Porch-light greetings and friendly chats
- Games or activities for kids to enjoy outdoors
- No matter the format, the goal remains the same: get neighbors outside, introduce new faces, and share a few important safety reminders.
A Call to Block Captains
Block Captains are invited to coordinate with their neighbors, choose a convenient time, and share details with their streets. Even a small effort goes a long way toward creating a welcoming, well-connected community. By helping to organize a local event, Block Captains play a key role in ensuring that Champions Park participates in this nationwide tradition of unity and awareness.
