Big Cypress District Collects 35,000 Pounds of Food for Souperbowl of Caring
The Cypress community has come together once again to help fill the food pantry at Cypress Assistance Ministries, bringing in 35,000 pounds of food for CAM's annual Souperbowl of Caring initiative.
The effort was a well-orchestrated operation between local Scouts within Big Cypress District, parents, volunteers and members of the community, all of whom came together for a common cause: fill CAM's pantry so they can help feed neighbors in need over the next six months.
Big Cypress District led the coordination of the food drive dubbed Scouting for Food, where Scouts asked members of the community to contribute non-perishable unopened boxed food, canned foods, bottled water and other pantry items. Leveraging multiple marketing strategies to get the word out, Scouts took to social media, delivered postcards to residents, made yard signs, and sent text messages, called and emailed friends and family about this initiative. The postcards delivered to residents were placed near front doors along with a bag, asking them to fill it with non-perishable food donations and promising to be back to pick it up that Saturday morning.
