Cy-Hope Receives $40,000 CenterPoint Energy Foundation Grant to Expand Mobile STEM Bus Across Cy-Fair and Waller ISD
For many students, access to cutting-edge technology and hands-on STEM education can depend on where they live, what resources their school has available, or whether transportation is accessible. A new investment in Cy-Fair and Waller-area students aims to help change that.
Cy-Hope has received a $40,000 grant from the CenterPoint Energy Foundation to support the revamp and expansion of its Mobile STEM Bus program, bringing more robotics, coding, engineering, and drone technology experiences directly into neighborhoods, schools, after-school programs, and community spaces throughout Cy-Fair ISD and Waller ISD.
The funding will allow the nonprofit organization to enhance technology, expand interactive learning opportunities, and develop a structured curriculum designed to reach even more young learners. As the region continues to grow, community leaders say investments like these help ensure local students are prepared for the workforce and opportunities of the future.
Bringing STEM Education Directly to Students
Unlike traditional classroom programs that require students to travel to a specific location, the Cy-Hope Mobile STEM Bus takes learning directly to where children already are.
The fully equipped mobile lab offers free STEM experiences for schools, community organizations, and youth programs, helping eliminate barriers that can prevent students from participating in technology-focused educational opportunities.
Through the program, students ages 9 and older can design, build, and program LEGO® robotics projects, while older students can gain hands-on experience with STEM drones, learning how to pilot and program technology increasingly used in industries ranging from engineering and agriculture to public safety and infrastructure.
The program also emphasizes teamwork, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
With support from the CenterPoint Energy Foundation, Cy-Hope expects the expanded program to increase its capacity to serve more than 500 youth annually.
A Community Investment in the Future Workforce
As employers across Texas continue seeking workers with technology, engineering, and digital skills, many educators and community organizations are placing greater emphasis on STEM education beginning at younger ages.
By introducing students to robotics, coding, and engineering concepts through hands-on activities, the Mobile STEM Bus helps children explore career pathways they may not have previously considered.
The expansion is expected to provide students with greater exposure to real-world applications of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics while helping build confidence in subjects that can sometimes feel intimidating.
For families across Cy-Fair and Waller, the program offers another opportunity for students to engage with advanced technology in an approachable, interactive environment—without any cost to participants.

Why This Matters for Cy-Fair and Waller Families
Programs like the Mobile STEM Bus are becoming increasingly important as technology continues to shape nearly every industry.
By bringing robotics and drone technology directly into local schools and community spaces, Cy-Hope is helping ensure that access to STEM learning is not limited by geography, transportation, or financial circumstances.
For parents, educators, and community leaders, the grant represents more than just new equipment or curriculum enhancements. It reflects an investment in local students, future workforce development, and educational opportunities that can have lasting effects long after a single lesson ends.
As the Mobile STEM Bus expands its reach, more students across Cy-Fair and Waller ISD will have the opportunity to explore technology, discover new interests, and build skills that may one day influence their educational and career paths.
What Happens Next
Cy-Hope plans to use the CenterPoint Energy Foundation grant to upgrade and expand the Mobile STEM Bus program, adding enhanced technology, new interactive experiences, and curriculum improvements that will allow the organization to reach additional schools, community groups, and youth-serving organizations throughout the area.
Schools, after-school programs, and community organizations interested in bringing the Mobile STEM Bus to their students can request visits through Cy-Hope's free outreach program.
For a community focused on preparing the next generation for success, the investment represents another step toward creating greater educational access and opportunity for local children.
