Barbara Bush Branch Library’s June Lineup Offers Summer Learning, Family Fun and Lifelong Discovery Near Sableridge

For Sableridge families looking to keep children engaged this summer, adults hoping to learn a new skill, and seniors seeking opportunities to connect with others, the Barbara Bush Branch Library is offering a full calendar of educational, creative and community-focused programs throughout June.

Located at 6817 Cypresswood Dr, Spring, TX 77379 in northwest Harris County and serving residents throughout the greater Spring and northwest Houston area, the Barbara Bush Branch Library has long been a hub for lifelong learning, literacy and community engagement. As one of the Harris County Public Library system’s most active branches, the library provides free access to educational resources, technology, cultural programming and enrichment opportunities for residents of all ages.

This month’s schedule reflects that mission, with dozens of events designed to help residents explore new interests, develop skills, meet neighbors and make the most of summer close to home.

Summer Starts with Camps, Storytimes and Family Fun

Families in and around Sableridge will find no shortage of activities for children and teens throughout June.

The month begins with a Summer Kick-Off Foam Party at 10:30 a.m. on June 1, offering a fun way for families to launch the summer season. Throughout the month, younger children can participate in recurring literacy programs including Baby Storytime every Monday at 10:30 a.m., Toddler Time every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., and Pre-School Storytime every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

Older children and teens can dive into hands-on learning through specialized camps, including:

  • Space U-Beyond (June 1-5) for ages 11-13
  • STEMpower Camp (June 8-11) for ages 11-14
  • Youth chess sessions beginning June 16 for ages 9-17
  • Teen-focused activities including Trivia, Dungeons & Dragons, Dome Diorama, Draw & Chill and more.

Several family-friendly performances and educational experiences are also planned throughout the month, including:

  • DACAMERA Presents: Sam Dinkins & The History of Jazz on June 5
  • The Big Dig on June 11
  • Crocodile Encounter on June 18
  • Mad About Hoops on June 25
  • Bright Star Touring Theatre Presents: Dino Academy on June 26
  • The library’s Summer Block Party on June 26

Adults Can Explore New Skills and Creative Pursuits

For adults, the June calendar offers a wide variety of educational workshops, arts programming and technology classes.

Creative residents can participate in programs such as:

  • Tuesday Mystery Crafternoon
  • Diamond Art
  • Salt Shaker Tassels
  • Layered Plexiglass Art
  • Painting with Pam
  • Gel Printing
  • The Journaling Group
  • Collaborative Songwriting Workshop with Bob Pryor

Those interested in practical skills can take advantage of technology-focused classes including:

  • Computer Basics
  • Gaggle of Google Apps
  • Files & Folders
  • Smartphone Help
  • Advanced Excel Part I and Part II

The library also continues to support hobbyists and makers through recurring programs such as Simply Sewing for Beginners, Stitch Chicks, the Repair Café Hand Sewing & Mending Class, and the Seed Library Society Meetup.

Opportunities to Connect with Fellow Readers and Neighbors

One of the library’s strengths is its ability to bring people together around shared interests.

Readers can choose from several book clubs this month, including:

  • Evening Book Club
  • Romance Book Club
  • Afternoon Book Club
  • Club de Lectura Hispana.

Residents looking to meet new people can participate in Senior Speed Friending on June 25 or Speed Friending on June 29, while tabletop gaming enthusiasts can join the Role Players’ Guild sessions scheduled throughout the month.

The library also continues to host Senior Game Day each Wednesday and Taller Vivencial, providing additional opportunities for social engagement and lifelong learning.

Important Registration and Holiday Information

Many adult programs require advance registration, while children's events utilize a ticketing system. Tickets for children's programs are distributed 15 minutes before the event begins.

Residents should also note that the library will close at 5 p.m. on June 18 and remain closed June 19-20 in observance of Juneteenth. The branch will reopen on Monday, June 22, at 10 a.m.

Support the Friends of the Library Bookstore

Visitors can also browse the Friends of the Library Bookstore, where proceeds help support library enhancements and programming for all ages. The bookstore operates Tuesdays through Saturdays with varying hours throughout the week.

As summer gets underway, Barbara Bush Branch Library continues to provide one of the most accessible and affordable sources of family entertainment, educational enrichment and community connection in the area. Whether residents are introducing a child to reading, exploring a new hobby, learning technology skills or simply looking for a welcoming place to gather, the library's June programming offers something for nearly every interest and age group.
