A Legacy of Literacy and Community Engagement
Since its original opening in 1986, Baldwin Boettcher Library, part of the Harris County Public Library system, has been a cornerstone of educational resources and programming in the area. The facility hosts summer reading programs, literacy initiatives, and community outreach events, including the Little Blue Library, a popular resource that provides books and materials for borrowing.
Following the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey in 2017, the library was forced to close due to extensive flood damage. Now, with its reconstruction complete, the 10,000-square-foot library has been rebuilt to the same specifications as the previous structure, ensuring that familiar features such as the children’s reading area, gardening tool library, conference room, circulation space, and computer area have all returned.
Additionally, a flood protection barrier has been incorporated into the exterior design to help safeguard the facility from future flooding events.

Collaboration and Dedication Lead to Successful Rebuild
The reopening of Baldwin Boettcher Library marks a significant milestone for Harris County Public Library and Precinct 3, reflecting years of dedication and collaboration to restore this essential community resource. Edward Melton, Director of Harris County Public Library, expressed his excitement for the library’s return and gratitude for the support that made it possible.
“We are so excited to be reopening the Baldwin Boettcher Library,” said Melton. “We wouldn’t have been able to do this without the support of Precinct 3 Commissioner Ramsey and all of the work his staff has done to help get this project started and completed.”
