Are Basketball Goals Allowed in Lakes of Bella Terra? Here's What You Need to Know

April 08 2025

For many residents in Lakes of Bella Terra, adding a basketball goal to the driveway or backyard can be a fun way to encourage outdoor activity and family time. But a common question often arises—are basketball goals allowed in the neighborhood? The answer is yes, with some important guidelines in place to preserve community aesthetics and safety, as outlined in the Lakes of Bella Terra Residential Design Guidelines.

According to the community’s Architectural Control Committee (ACC), permanent basketball goals may be allowed, but they must be approved in advance by the ACC. There are several key rules to be aware of: poles must not violate side or rear building lines, and homeowners with lake lots are not permitted to install basketball poles at the rear of their property. In addition, permanent backboards may not be attached to side-load, swing-in, or front-load garages—they’re only allowed on detached garages.

When it comes to materials and design, only commercially manufactured backboards in neutral colors are allowed, with a simple shooting square outline and no additional graphics. Poles must be metal—no wooden poles are permitted.

If you're looking for a more flexible option, portable basketball goals like Hydro Huffy Sports are permitted, but with conditions. These goals must be in good condition, have a proper net (no chain nets), and must be moved out of public view or at least behind the front façade of the home before nightfall.

Following these Lakes of Bella Terra basketball goal rules ensures that the neighborhood remains well-kept while still allowing residents to enjoy recreational amenities.

For more details or to submit a request for ACC approval, residents are encouraged to review the full Residential Design Guidelines or reach out to your community management team for further clarification.
