Annual Superintendent's Fun Run Raises Record $210,000

April 10 2023

Approximately 8,000 CFISD staff, students, community members and business partners gathered at the Berry Center and Cy-Fair FCU Stadium for the 10th annual Superintendent’s Fun Run on April 1. The fundraiser concluded with CFISD and Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital representatives presenting a check worth a record $210,000 to the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF).

The event featured a 5K run and 1-mile family-friendly walk/run. The 5K course featured a route through Towne Lake and Lone Star College—CyFair. The 1-mile family walk path wound through the walkways of Cy-Fair FCU Stadium and featured high school inflatable tunnels on the field and spirit teams and groups encouraging participants.

Dr. Mark Henry, CFISD superintendent of schools, starts the 5K race at the 10th annual Superintendent’s Fun Run held April 1 at the Berry Center. The event, which saw nearly 5,500 race participants in the 5K and 1-mile family-friendly walk, raised a record-breaking $210,000 for the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation.

Sponsor and vendor booths, food trucks, a children’s play area and student performances made the day special for all event guests.

“It’s unbelievable and I’m just overwhelmed by the participation of our employees and the community,” said Dr. Mark Henry, CFISD superintendent of schools. “I really appreciate the response we received from the entire district and entire community, and I just want everyone to know that I’m so grateful. The beauty of the money raised is that it will provide scholarships for student in perpetuity. That’s making a difference.”

The event drew approximately 5,500 total race participants. In addition, more than 6,400 registered for the sleep-in pass, which allowed an option for those who wanted to support the CFEF but were unable to attend.

Approximately 5,500 registered race participants, both young and old, took part in the 10th annual Superintendent’s Fun Run on April 1 at the Berry Center. The 1-mile family-friendly walk included the walkways of Cy-Fair FCU Stadium and featured high school inflatable tunnels on the field and spirit teams and groups encouraging participants.

The event was underwritten by Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital.

“This is a great event for the community with a great turnout,” said Jerry Ashworth, Memorial Hermann Hospital Cypress senior vice president and chief executive officer. “We take care of this community so it’s fitting for us to support and help CFISD and Dr. Henry and his team. At the end of the day, this event supports those students taking the next step in their educational journey.”

“Our Superintendent’s Fun Run brought out the best in our community,” said Dawn Tryon, director of community engagement. “CFISD was thrilled to host the 10th annual event with seventy business partners and hundreds of community members, employees, parents and students! We enjoyed fellowship, cheered on our talented students and engaged with business partners and vendors. Beautiful weather, families eager to run for a great cause and our kids' zone made an exciting event all the more special. We are honored to present a check to the CFEF for $210,000 to support scholarship opportunities for our CFISD students!”
