Alpha Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter is Making an Impact

January 25 2023

Alpha Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter's MLK Day of Service soared to greater heights as they presented a community Share the Warmth 4K Run/Walk at Generation Park Walking Trails. Monday, January 16, 2023, donations began pouring in amidst warming up to high-energy rhythms and continued throughout the opening ceremony. Starting with a compelling prayer led by Reverend Dr. Wilbert C. Baker, Lakeland Baptist Church. Martina Lemond Dixon, Humble ISD School Board President, ignited the crowd with an exhilarating welcome. Marques A. Holmes, a Humble ISD School Board Trustee, informed and encouraged onlookers to continue making a difference with their voting ballots and concluded with Texas State Representative Harold V. Dutton Jr.- District 142, delivering remarks that enlightened and inspired civic pride.

Led by the flashing lights and sirens of Fire Station 105, runners and walkers started off. All present were reminded of the importance of civic responsibility and how their actions on this day were so reflective of Dr. King's legacy of making a difference. Over a hundred registrants donated new socks and hats, new or nearly new light coats or jackets and money. These thoughtful neighbors understand, for countless families and individuals, winter months are more expensive and present a heftier strain on their budget as they struggle to afford basic necessities. All donations will benefit Family Time Crisis & Counseling Center, (1203 S. Houston Ave., Humble TX 77338) whose mission, is to provide services and programs to encourage the mental health and wellness of the community as well as promote safety and support for the prevention of domestic and sexual violence.
