Alaska Airlines Announces New Nonstop Flights Between Austin and Anchorage Starting Summer 2027

Austin
October 28 2026

For Austin-area residents who have dreamed of seeing Alaska's glaciers, exploring Denali National Park or experiencing the midnight sun, getting there is about to become a little easier. Alaska Airlines has announced new nonstop flights between Austin and Anchorage beginning June 12, 2027, giving Central Texas travelers another option for reaching one of the country's most distinctive summer destinations without a connecting flight.

The new service will operate once weekly on Saturdays through August 7, 2027, connecting Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) with Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC). The route is part of a larger expansion that also includes new Anchorage flights to Dallas-Fort Worth, Nashville and Tokyo, Japan.

For Austin families planning summer vacations, outdoor enthusiasts looking for their next adventure and travelers with personal or business connections to Alaska, the announcement adds a new possibility to next year's travel calendar.

What Austin Travelers Should Know About the New Alaska Airlines Flights

The new Austin-to-Anchorage nonstop route is scheduled to operate during the heart of Alaska's summer travel season, when longer daylight hours create opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, sightseeing and exploring the state's national parks.

According to Alaska Airlines, the new service includes the following details:

  • Route: Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) to Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC)

  • Service begins: Saturday, June 12, 2027

  • Season ends: Saturday, August 7, 2027

  • Frequency: Once weekly on Saturdays

  • Airline: Alaska Airlines

The seasonal schedule gives Austin travelers a nonstop option during a popular time to visit Alaska. Families considering a weeklong vacation may find the Saturday service particularly useful, although travelers should review available departure and return dates before booking.

Unlike connecting itineraries that require a stop at another airport, the new nonstop service will allow passengers to travel directly between Austin and Anchorage.

Why Anchorage Is Worth Considering for an Austin Summer Vacation

For Central Texans accustomed to hot summer afternoons, Alaska offers a very different kind of getaway.

Anchorage serves as a starting point for exploring some of the state's best-known natural attractions, including glaciers, mountain landscapes, coastal scenery and wildlife habitats. Summer visitors can experience unusually long daylight hours, with the sun remaining above the horizon late into the evening.

One of the area's most recognizable destinations is Denali National Park and Preserve, home to North America's tallest mountain. Visitors can also explore the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, take scenic drives along Turnagain Arm or plan excursions to see glaciers and marine wildlife.

Anchorage itself offers museums, restaurants, cultural attractions and opportunities to learn about Alaska Native history and traditions.

For Austin residents interested in outdoor recreation, photography or family travel, the new route creates another way to experience a destination that feels considerably different from the Texas Hill Country.

Travelers should note that Alaska's summer temperatures vary by location and weather conditions, making layered clothing and rain protection important even during July and August.

Alaska Airlines Also Announces New Nonstop Flights Between Anchorage and Tokyo

The Austin announcement comes alongside a significant international expansion for Alaska Airlines.

Beginning May 13, 2027, the airline plans to introduce its first nonstop service between Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and Tokyo's Narita International Airport, creating a new direct connection between Alaska and Japan.

The Anchorage-to-Tokyo flight is scheduled to depart at 2:10 p.m. and arrive at 3:25 p.m. the following day, accounting for the international date change and local time zones.

Return flights from Tokyo Narita will begin May 14, 2027, departing at 9:45 p.m. and arriving in Anchorage at noon local time.

The airline plans to operate the route daily during the summer, with the initial seasonal schedule ending September 7 from Anchorage and September 8 from Tokyo. Service is also planned to resume three times weekly beginning January 2028.

Flights will operate aboard a Boeing 737 MAX 8, which Alaska Airlines says has the range necessary to serve the route. The company noted that the MAX 8 can fly farther than the MAX 10 aircraft planned for its fleet.

For Austin travelers, the Tokyo announcement is part of the same Anchorage network expansion, but it does not establish a guaranteed one-stop itinerary from Austin to Japan. The weekly Austin schedule, flight connections and seasonal availability would need to be reviewed separately.

New International Service Brings Additional Travel Options

Alaska Airlines says passengers traveling between Anchorage and Tokyo will have several onboard amenities depending on their ticket class.

First Class passengers will receive priority boarding, recliner seating and multi-course dining beginning with the airline's Signature Charcuterie. Additional amenities include Filson-designed blankets and pillows, along with a Filson travel kit featuring Salt & Stone products.

Eligible First Class passengers will also have access to the Alaska Lounge in Anchorage, where light meals and beverages are available.

Main Cabin and Premium Class passengers will receive complimentary meals, including a hot entrée and dessert, with vegetarian options available. Premium Class travelers will also have access to a selection of complimentary beverages.

Atmos Rewards members can receive complimentary Wi-Fi on select flights through T-Mobile as the airline continues installing Starlink internet service across its Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet.

The airline says the new international route is intended to strengthen travel, tourism and business relationships between Alaska and Japan.

"This long-requested route will open new opportunities for tourism and commerce, bringing our distinctive hospitality to more travelers and strengthen our growing global network," said Marilyn Romano, Alaska Airlines regional vice president.

Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy also welcomed the announcement, pointing to the potential for additional tourism and stronger business relationships between Alaska and Japan.

Austin Joins Alaska Airlines' Largest Anchorage Nonstop Schedule

The Austin route is one of three new domestic nonstop services Alaska Airlines plans to introduce from Anchorage in 2027.

Along with Austin, the carrier announced seasonal service to Nashville and Dallas-Fort Worth. All three routes are scheduled to begin June 12 and operate weekly on Saturdays through August 7, according to the airline's published schedule.

Combined with the new Tokyo service, the additions will give Alaska Airlines its largest-ever nonstop schedule from Alaska in 2027.

The expansion comes as the airline prepares to celebrate 95 years of service in 2027, continuing a history that began in 1932.

"Our ambitions are global, but our foundation remains the same. From the beginning, Alaska Airlines has connected communities across Alaska, the West Coast and beyond," Romano said.

Alaska Airlines is part of Alaska Air Group, which also includes Hawaiian Airlines and Horizon Air. The group operates an extensive network serving more than 140 destinations throughout North America, Latin America, Asia, the Pacific and Europe.

Its major hubs include Seattle, Honolulu, Portland, Anchorage, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco.

Through its Atmos Rewards program and membership in the oneworld alliance, eligible travelers can earn and redeem points across participating airlines and global partners serving more than 1,100 destinations worldwide.

What About Ticket Prices and Booking for Austin Travelers?

Alaska Airlines has announced a limited-time introductory fare for its new Anchorage-to-Tokyo service, with round-trip tickets starting at $999 for eligible travel between May 13 and June 7, 2027.

That promotional fare is available through October 31, 2026, subject to availability, and applies specifically to travel between Anchorage and Tokyo Narita. A round-trip purchase is required, and additional terms and conditions apply.

The airline did not announce a specific introductory fare for the Austin-to-Anchorage route in its October 27 release.

Travelers interested in the new Austin flights can check schedules, pricing and availability through the airline's official booking websites:

All newly announced routes remain subject to government approval.

Because the Austin service will operate only once weekly during its initial summer season, travelers planning vacations around school breaks, cruises or scheduled excursions should pay particular attention to flight dates and potential changes.

What Happens Next for Austin's New Nonstop Alaska Flights?

With the first flights scheduled for June 12, 2027, Austin-area travelers have several months to consider whether Alaska belongs on their summer vacation plans.

The new service adds another destination to the nonstop flight options available from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and provides a direct link to a state known for its national parks, outdoor recreation and distinctive landscapes.

For families who have been saving Alaska for a future vacation, the Saturday schedule could make planning a weeklong trip more straightforward. For others, the new route may simply offer an opportunity to visit friends, reconnect with family or explore a part of the country they have never seen.

As Alaska Airlines continues expanding its network, Austin's inclusion in the 2027 schedule gives Central Texas travelers another option when deciding where to go next.
