Acclaimed Author Julie Ames to Share Inspiring Memoir at The Brookwood Community Book Club Event in October

September 17 2024

The Brookwood Community is gearing up to play host to an inspirational event on October 18th at The Brookwood Café, where the community is welcome to participate in a Book Club Author Meet and Greet featuring Julie Ames, an acclaimed author and advocate for special needs children. Ames, the mother of two Brookwood Citizens, will present her touching memoir, "A Very Special Journey of Grief, Grace, and Gratitude: No, They Are Not Okay…but It’s Okay! Raising Special Needs Kids."

Julie Clark Ames boasts an impressive and varied background. Starting with her degree in Industrial Systems Engineering, she enjoyed careers in both business and engineering prior to becoming a full-time mother. Yet her life would take an unexpected turn when her daughters were diagnosed with atypical autism and severe intellectual disabilities. This life-altering experience would become the catalyst for Ames' entry into the world of special needs advocacy.

In her book, Ames exposes the raw emotions and experiences of raising special needs children. She paints an honest and relatable picture of the ups and downs, joys and struggles that accompany parenting kids with special needs, offering not only her unique insights but a much-needed support network to others embarking on a similar journey.

The event, offering a delightful lunch and meet and greet session with the author, will provide an opportunity to learn more about her powerful story. Attendees will have the chance to buy a copy of "A Very Special Journey of Grief, Grace, and Gratitude" and have it signed by Ames herself. To learn more about her memoir, visit julieames.com
