$5M Remodel Set to Transform Sam’s Club in San Marcos Starting May 2026
Big changes are on the horizon for shoppers at the Sam’s Club located at 1350 Leah Avenue in San Marcos. The membership-based retail giant is investing $5 million into a sweeping remodel of the 135,000-square-foot club, with construction scheduled to begin on May 17, 2026, and wrap up by October 1, 2026.
The renovation is part of Sam’s Club’s broader national growth and modernization strategy, which was unveiled at the Walmart Inc. Investment Community Meeting in 2025. According to the plan, all 600 existing clubs across the U.S. will undergo enhancements aimed at delivering a more seamless and satisfying shopping experience for members.
What to Expect During the Remodel
The San Marcos location’s upgrade includes an extensive interior refresh, the installation of a new shop-in freezer and cooler, and a full remodel of both the club café and deli area. These improvements are designed not just to beautify the store, but to increase functionality and convenience.
Despite the large scope of work, the store has confirmed it will remain open during the renovation with minimal disruptions to shoppers. Members can continue to use features like Scan & Go™, Curbside Pickup, Delivery from Club, and shipping services, all of which are core components of Sam’s Club’s omnichannel experience.
Part of a Bigger Retail Transformation
This remodel is more than a local update—it’s a chapter in a larger story. Sam’s Club, a $90 billion division of Walmart Inc., is undergoing a nationwide transformation. President and CEO Chris Nicholas laid out an ambitious roadmap that includes doubling membership and profits over the next 8 to 10 years through a combination of physical store investment, digital expansion, and member-first innovation.
“We’re investing with intention — in our fleet, our associates and the member experience — to become the world’s best club retailer,” said Nicholas during the 2025 investment meeting.
The recently opened Grapevine, Texas, club has already set the bar for the “club of the future,” and stores like the San Marcos Sam’s Club are next in line to receive these elevated upgrades.

Sam’s Club’s modern approach merges the convenience of eCommerce with the value of in-store bulk shopping. With enhanced digital tools, including AI-driven personalization, Just Go exit technology, and free Curbside Pickup for Club members, the remodel will support the company’s mission to make shopping more intuitive, efficient, and satisfying.
In San Marcos and beyond, younger generations and busy families are increasingly looking for flexible, fast, and affordable shopping options—trends Sam’s Club aims to meet head-on.
Serving the Community — Today and Tomorrow
While the San Marcos location gets its upgrade, customers can expect the same friendly service from the club’s team of associates—something the company believes is vital to retaining loyal members.
“When a member has a meaningful, positive interaction with an associate, they’re more likely to renew — and stay loyal,” said Nicholas, underscoring the importance of both community engagement and associate empowerment as part of the brand’s success.
With this remodel, Sam’s Club isn’t just investing in its stores—it’s investing in the communities they serve, including the fast-growing Central Texas corridor where San Marcos continues to thrive.
For San Marcos Residents and Sam’s Club Members: Your go-to bulk shopping destination at 1350 Leah Avenue is expected to remain open during the remodel. According to Sam's Club, shoppers should still be able to continue using features like Scan & Go™, Curbside Pickup, and Delivery from Club to save time and avoid the lines as improvements unfold.
