1-2-3 Service: Cy-Fair Women's Club
Non-Profit

1-2-3 Service: Cy-Fair Women's Club

September 28 2022

Community Service is defined as unpaid work performed by a person or group of people for the benefit and betterment of their community without any form of compensation.

Cy-Fair Women’s Club does community service in three forms.  Our Service Project committee is tasked with planning and organizing each year.

One is SPECIFIC COLLECTIONS.   The committee collects specific items carefully selected for a specific organization at our monthly meeting.  Collections this year have included slightly used baby baths and new diaper bags for the Gabriel Project, reusable shopping bags for Entrusted Houston Center, and yellow items (snacks and school supplies) for teachers at a local high school.  We are currently collecting items for compassion bags.  Additionally, we have supplied Cy-Fair Helping Hands, a local food pantry & homeless outreach with 300 family boxes of macaroni and cheese each month.  These collections we have been doing for at least 4-5 years.

Two is HANDS-ON SERVICE.   Club members, often spouses and children provide service to a local organization. Our members generously give their time to neighborhood non-profits and enjoy giving back with other members.  We volunteered at the Reach Unlimited Golf Tournament, participated in the Relay for Life Cy-Fair/Waller, and worked in the Mesa-Outreach food pantry.  An upcoming hands-on service will be preparing lunch for volunteers at a Habitat for Humanity site.

A long-time hands-on service project is the making of breast cancer pillows.  This project began approximately 2005-2006 when a former president developed breast cancer.  This project has expanded over the years and has its own committee, Pillow Pals.  These heart-shaped pillows help relieve the pressure of drains from breast cancer procedures and surgeries.  The pillows have expanded to provide comfort to nursing home residents and cardiac patients use them to press against their chest when coughing.   We get together at least once a year to stuff and hand sew the pillows.  It will be part of our November meeting this year.

Three is PRE-MEETING SERVICE PROJECTS. Sometimes a little crafty, sometimes simple packaging of items, and always appreciated we often have a small project before our meeting begins from 6:30 - 7:00 pm. It’s a fun way to connect with fellow members and make new friends.   Washcloth bunnies were made for nursing home residents for Easter.  Travel size lotions were donated and included.  Pet Toys were made from t-shirts and fleece for a local animal rescue and for local AniMeal clients.  Pet food was also donated to these organizations.  Upcoming projects include packaging compassion bags.
