Harris County Constable Precinct 5 to Host Personal Safety For College Women Self Defense Course
Harris County Constable Precinct 5 is set to offer a crucial self-defense course titled "Personal Safety For College Women". This instructional event, tailored towards college-aged women, aims to provide them with the knowledge and tactics necessary to deal with potential threats on campus.
This three-hour session, open to all women and teens aged 16 and above, splits its duration between information dissemination and hands-on exercise. Harris County Constable Precinct 5 is behind the organization of this course which aims to provide incoming college students with the tools they need to safeguard their personal security. Those interested are encouraged to attend with female friends, sisters, or mothers.
Statistics from RAINN, the country's largest organization addressing sexual violence, highlight the importance of such a course. Their data indicates that 26.4% of undergraduate women fall victim to sexual assault or rape via physical force, violence, or incapacitation. However, only 20% of these survivors reach out to a victim's agency for support, making courses like Personal Safety For College Women an essential resource for young women.
The course is set for Wednesday, July 10 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the CrossRoad Church, located at 700 Westgreen Boulevard. Its curriculum includes techniques that help identify and avert dangers even before they escalate, along with practical and efficient self-defense measures.
Precinct 5 is asking attendees to bring their own notepad and pen, towel, drinking water, suitable workout clothing, tennis shoes, and hair ties if necessary.
Participation is free, but all attendees must register in advance and sign a waiver of liability, which is available for download here. The waiver should be filled out, signed, and brought to the class.
