H-E-B Announces Major Expansion with New Distribution Campus in Hempstead
Texas-based supermarket chain H-E-B is set to establish a new foothold in its home state with the announced development of a new distribution campus in Hempstead, less than 30 minutes from Cypress.
The company has closed a deal to acquire nearly 500 acres of land in Waller County, where it plans to unveil a multiphase development strategy that will include several distribution facilities. With an expected kick-off in late 2024, the first phase of construction on the Hempstead campus is designed to support H-E-B's expansion of its supply chain operations, according to a release issued by H-E-B.
Once completed, the new complex, located south of U.S. Highway 290 and east of Highway 6, will bolster the company's growing business needs, although specific details are yet to be released.
H-E-B's Chief Supply Chain Officer, Carson Landsgard, noted that the land purchase marked "the first step in the development of this strategically planned campus," which aims to position H-E-B to better service its customers in the future. The investment also signals H-E-B's commitment to Texas communities, as it anticipates creating new jobs in the Hempstead area.
Hempstead Mayor Erica Gillum expressed her delight at welcoming H-E-B to the city, where "progress and small-town status" go hand in hand. Anticipating a fruitful partnership, Mayor Gillum envisions future collective achievements spurred by the arrival of "Texas’ favorite retailer".
H-E-B has emerged as the largest privately-held employer in Texas, continually expanding its operations and acting as a significant economic driver for the state. With over 160,000 Partners in Texas and Mexico, H-E-B continually seeks talented associates to join their ranks and foster their customer-first philosophy.
The company, which hit $43 billion in sales, runs more than 435 stores across Texas and Mexico. Acknowledged for its innovative offerings, community service, and a commitment to sustainability, H-E-B also marks its 118th anniversary this year.
More information about H-E-B's latest development will be released as the project progresses.
