As the holiday season approaches, Cy-Fair Helping Hands (CFHH) is once again inviting the community to help make the season brighter for its homeless neighbors through the Homeless Blessing Tree initiative. The nonprofit organization, which has been serving the homeless and underprivileged populations of northwest Houston since 2010, provides critical support to individuals and families in need. This year, CFHH is asking for the public’s help in fulfilling the modest holiday wishes of their homeless clients.
Cy-Fair Helping Hands, founded by Jean and John Dreyer, began with a simple yet powerful mission: to help those who were living on the streets of northwest Houston. What started as a grassroots effort with soup served from the back of a truck has grown into a multifaceted organization offering emergency shelter, street outreach, a community food pantry, and support programs for local children and families. The organization’s day center and outreach efforts have become lifelines for many who struggle to stay housed, with 100% of the organization’s funding coming from generous donors—individuals, churches, and local businesses.

Through the Homeless Blessing Tree, CFHH hopes to bring some holiday cheer to its clients by fulfilling their Christmas wishes. Outreach volunteers at CFHH have gathered letters from clients, which include both essential needs—such as warm clothing, blankets, and hygiene products—and more personal requests, like toys for children or comfort items for those enduring the challenges of life without a permanent home. To participate, community members can visit bit.ly/blessingtree2024, where they can sign up to purchase and donate specific items listed on ornaments, each representing a client’s wish. The organization encourages participants to purchase the items and return them to CFHH’s office, unwrapped, with the ornament number clearly marked on the outside of each package.
CFHH’s lobby is home to the Day Center Homeless Blessing Tree, where donors can also pick ornaments in person. These modest requests, ranging from clothing sizes to practical outdoor gear, reflect the daily struggles of those living without stable housing. Many of the clients CFHH serves spend time outdoors or in cars during the cold winter months, so items such as warm layers, blankets, gloves, and weather protection are always in demand. While fulfilling these requests, donors are also encouraged to consider purchasing extra items that may help enhance the holiday season for these individuals—whether it’s an extra blanket or a special gift for a child.
The Homeless Blessing Tree is one of several holiday initiatives offered by CFHH to serve the most vulnerable members of the community. The organization’s ongoing mission to assist the homeless population is fueled by donations from caring individuals, churches, and businesses, and it’s through initiatives like this that the community can directly support those in need. Gifts for the Homeless Blessing Tree must be returned to CFHH by December 11th, with a drop-off location at 9204 Emmott Road, Houston, TX 77040. CFHH’s offices are staffed Monday through Thursday from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM, except for a closure during the Thanksgiving week (November 26–30).
For those interested in participating, the process is simple: visit the online sign-up page here, select an ornament, purchase the requested items, and return the gifts to CFHH by the deadline. Every contribution, whether it’s fulfilling one request or many, helps show homeless individuals that the community cares and that they are not forgotten during the holiday season. If you have any questions or need assistance with suggestions, CFHH encourages you to reach out via their website or by contacting Randi Lewis at randi@cyfairhelpinghands.org.
This holiday season, help spread warmth and joy by making someone’s Christmas wish come true through Cy-Fair Helping Hands’ Homeless Blessing Tree. Your kindness can make a real difference in the lives of those who are most in need.
