Yorktown Colony Recycling Guide: What You Can and Can't Recycle

Yorktown Colony Recycling Guide: What You Can and Can't Recycle

March 12 2025

Recycling is a simple way to help the environment and keep Yorktown Colony clean and green. Thanks to Texas Pride Disposal, residents have an easy and convenient way to recycle every Monday—but it’s important to know what can and cannot go into the recycling bin.

Take Pride in Recycling the Right Way

To ensure recyclables are processed correctly, follow these simple guidelines:

  • All items should be clean, dry, and loose in your recycling container.

  • Do not bag recyclables—plastic bags are not accepted and often lead to contamination.

  • Flatten cardboard boxes to save space and improve processing.

What Can Be Recycled?

Yorktown Colony residents can recycle a wide variety of materials, including paper, plastics, metals, and glass. Here’s a breakdown of acceptable items:

  • Paper Products: Newspaper, magazines, catalogs, junk mail, envelopes, file folders, wrapping paper, cardboard boxes, clean pizza boxes, paper towel rolls, grocery bags, and more.

  • Plastics (#1-#7, rinsed): Milk and juice bottles, soda and water bottles, shampoo and soap bottles, detergent containers, yogurt cups, plastic flower pots, prescription pill containers, and to-go containers (not Styrofoam).

  • Metals (rinsed): Soda, juice, and beer cans, canned food cans, aluminum foil, pie trays, metal jar lids, empty aerosol cans, and gutters (less than 5 feet long).

  • Glass (rinsed): Beer bottles, wine bottles, soda bottles, and glass jars.

What Can’t Be Recycled?

Some items might seem recyclable but are actually not accepted in the program. These items should be placed in your regular trash:

  • Styrofoam (cups, takeout containers, packing peanuts)

  • Thin plastics (plastic bags, dry cleaner bags, plastic mailer bags, bubble wrap)

  • Soiled materials (soiled pizza boxes, wet or greasy paper, facial and toilet tissue, paper towels)

  • Household items (pots and pans, PVC pipes, paint and solvent containers, light bulbs, coat hangers, microwavable dinner trays, mirrors, and windows)

Did You Know?

Recyclables placed in plastic bags are often sent to the landfill! Recycling centers do not open plastic bags, meaning their contents are discarded. If you must bag recyclables, use paper bags or cardboard boxes instead.

By following these recycling guidelines, Yorktown Colony residents can ensure that recyclable materials are properly processed and kept out of landfills. Let’s all do our part to keep Yorktown Colony clean and sustainable!
