YMSL Cy-Fair Chapter Members Honor Fallen Veterans at Houston National Cemetery
The Young Men's Service League (YMSL) Cy-Fair Chapter once again demonstrated their commitment to honoring the country's fallen heroes on Sunday, May 26, in readiness for the annual Memorial Day commemoration at Houston National Cemetery.
As part of their yearly Memorial Day weekend tradition, several young men from the organization, accompanied by their mothers, devoted their time to put American flags on the gravesites of fallen veterans. The flags were generously provided by Flags for Fallen Vets, a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that each veteran's gravesite in every National Cemetery across the country is adorned with an American flag for Memorial Day.
The flags were not just symbolic gestures, but a heartfelt tribute to the service men and women from a generation that understood the profound importance of sacrifice, loyalty, and valor.
YMSL-CyFair, which was founded in 2021 with 55 charter members, has grown significantly over the years. In the coming 2024-2025 school year, the organization is set to include 86 mothers and 98 young men as members. These mothers and their high school sons, primarily from Cy Fair, Cy Falls, Cy Lakes, Cy Ranch, Cy Springs, Cy Woods, and Bridgeland high schools, team up to volunteer in their local community, carrying out various philanthropic activities.
The act of serving together instills in these young men a heart of service meant to last a lifetime while simultaneously strengthening the bond between mother and son. Service, learning, and leadership are the pillars of the YMSL experience. The YMSL's four-year comprehensive program equips these young men with leadership and life skills, shaping them into capable, confident, and compassionate leaders for tomorrow.
