Paid Internships Help LSC-CyFair Students Turn Classroom Skills Into Careers
For many college students, the hardest part of starting a career is getting the experience required to land a first job. At Lone Star College-CyFair, a growing internship program is helping students cross that gap before they leave the classroom.
Ahead of National Intern Day on Thursday, July 30, LSC-CyFair is highlighting former students who used the college’s Falcon Internship Program to secure paid internships, develop professional skills and begin building careers in business, marketing and other fields.
The recognition is part of the college’s recently launched Falcon Intern Spotlight series, which began by featuring 2025 alumni Michael Rodriguez Caskey and Lillian Delgado. Their experiences show how an internship can become more than a temporary position. With the right preparation and support, it can help a student discover personal strengths, gain confidence and find a clearer path forward.
National Intern Day was launched by career platform WayUp in 2017 to recognize interns and encourage employers to invest in meaningful early-career opportunities. The 2026 observance falls on July 30.
From a College Internship to a Sales Career
Caskey, LSC-CyFair’s July Falcon Intern Spotlight, is now studying business at the University of Houston-Downtown. His experience with the Falcon Internship Program helped lead him to 3 Men Movers, where he began as a sales intern and later moved into a Sales Consultant position.
“FIP helped me identify my strengths, improve my communication skills, especially in interviews, and gain confidence when interacting with employers,” said Caskey. “Through workshops and career guidance, I learned how to present myself professionally, create an effective resume and pursue internship opportunities that aligned with my academic and career goals.”
For a student with limited professional experience, even preparing a résumé can feel like a significant hurdle. Caskey said the program’s résumé-writing workshop gave him practical guidance on how to present the experience and abilities he already had.
“It (the workshop) made me very confident and also gave me an edge because I had like professional guidance on how to make it look great with the limited experience I did have,” he said.
That kind of preparation is central to the Falcon Internship Program, which connects LSC-CyFair students with employers offering real-world internships while providing career coaching, professional-development opportunities and guidance for entering the workforce.
Three Internships Build a Broader View of Marketing
Delgado, the June Falcon Intern Spotlight, was among the inaugural members of the program. Since then, she has secured three internships while continuing her education.
“It starts with the resume - tailoring your resume to the job specifically,” Delgado said.
Her first opportunity was with LSC-CyFair’s Communication Department, where she worked as a social media marketing intern and assistant while earning her associate degree.
After transferring to the University of Houston’s C.T. Bauer College of Business, Delgado continued building her professional experience. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems with a minor in Marketing. Along the way, she worked as a marketing specialist intern with Aspen Fiber Networks and is currently serving as a business and marketing intern with MACH Engineering.
Rather than repeating the same responsibilities at each company, Delgado has intentionally looked for opportunities that expose her to different sides of the industry.
“I try to get like a different kind of experience at each one so that way, I'm more well-rounded in marketing,” said Delgado.
Her path reflects one of the broader benefits of paid college internships in Cypress: students can test career interests, learn how different workplaces operate and begin building a professional network while they are still completing their degrees.
Why Paid Internships Matter for Cypress Students
Since its 2024 launch, the Falcon Internship Program has helped hundreds of participants gain hands-on workplace experience. For students, the program provides a chance to apply what they have learned in class, become more comfortable in professional settings and better understand what employers expect.
For Cypress-area businesses, the program offers access to students who are receiving career preparation and are ready to contribute in the workplace. Those relationships can also strengthen the local workforce by helping students establish professional roots close to home.
The college’s Falcon Opportunity Hub supports that transition through employer partnerships, career fairs, internships, industry visits, workshops, career coaching and other services intended to connect higher education with workforce needs.
That work carries particular reach at LSC-CyFair, a campus that opened in 2003 and now serves more than 16,000 students across the Cypress area.

LSC-CyFair plans to continue the Falcon Intern Spotlight series on its social media channels.
Upcoming features are expected to include Gabrielle Panuelos, who is interning at Rice University through the Digital Health Workforce Initiative, and Evelyn Salgado, an intern with The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce.
