Williamsburg Settlement Dolphins Celebrate Successful Swim Season With 150+ Swimmers and 10 All-Star Qualifiers
For many Williamsburg Settlement families, summer would not feel quite complete without the familiar rhythm of swim practices, cheering parents, team spirit and kids racing across the pool with neighbors calling their names.
This year, the Williamsburg Settlement Dolphins Swim Team gave the neighborhood another reason to be proud. The recreational summer swim team wrapped up a successful season with more than 150 swimmers, 10 All-Star qualifiers and a strong reminder of why neighborhood swim teams continue to matter in communities like Williamsburg Settlement.
“[We] just finished another successful year with more than 150 swimmers,” said Bernie Hall, president of the Williamsburg Settlement Dolphins swim team, in an update shared with Dave Ellis of the Williamsburg Settlement HOA Board.
A Summer Tradition Built Around Confidence, Friendship and Team Spirit
The Williamsburg Settlement Dolphins is a recreational summer swim team for children and teens ages 4 to 18. The team participates in the WHALe League, giving young swimmers the chance to grow through practices, regular meets, championship competition and end-of-season celebrations.
For Williamsburg Settlement residents, the Dolphins are more than a swim team. They are part of the neighborhood’s summer identity. Families gather at the pool, children learn how to compete with confidence, and swimmers of different ages build friendships that often stretch well beyond the season.
“[The] swimmers did their best, swam fast and had a great time,” Hall said.
That simple summary captures much of what makes the Dolphins meaningful for local families. In a season filled with early practices, meet-day nerves and plenty of poolside encouragement, swimmers had the chance to improve their strokes, learn sportsmanship and experience what it feels like to be part of something rooted close to home.
10 Dolphins Qualify for the All-Star Meet
One of the biggest highlights of the season came when 10 Williamsburg Settlement Dolphins qualified for the All-Star meet.
According to Hall, qualifying for All-Stars is no small accomplishment. Only the top 24 swimmers in each stroke across the entire league earn a spot, making the achievement a point of pride not only for the swimmers and their families, but for the broader Williamsburg Settlement community.
“[We] had 10 Dolphins qualify for the All-Star meet, only the top 24 swimmers in each stroke across the entire league qualify,” Hall said.
For a neighborhood recreational swim team, that kind of leaguewide recognition reflects both individual effort and the support system around the swimmers. Coaches, parents and volunteers all play a role in helping young athletes show up, stay encouraged and keep improving throughout the summer.
Coaches and Parents Help Power the Season
Like many community swim teams in the Katy-area neighborhoods, the Williamsburg Settlement Dolphins depend on more than strong swimmers. A successful season takes patient coaches, organized volunteers, supportive parents and families willing to spend summer evenings and weekends helping the team run smoothly.
Hall credited that wider support network as a major reason the season was a success.
“We have amazing coaches and parents, can’t wait for next year,” Hall said.
That enthusiasm is part of what keeps neighborhood swim teams strong from year to year. For younger swimmers, the Dolphins offer a welcoming first step into team sports. For older swimmers, the season can become a chance to mentor younger teammates, set goals and represent Williamsburg Settlement with pride.
Dolphins Community Events Continue Beyond Swim Season
Although the competitive season has wrapped up, the Williamsburg Settlement Dolphins will remain visible in the neighborhood through several upcoming community events.
Residents can look for the team at the End of Year Dive-In Movie in August, the Winborn Fall Festival and the annual Grinch event this Christmas. These gatherings give families a chance to reconnect outside of swim meets and help keep the Dolphins’ community spirit going long after the final race of summer.
For Williamsburg Settlement families with children interested in swimming, the Dolphins continue to offer a local, welcoming way to build water skills, confidence, sportsmanship and friendships through a fun summer league environment.
As the neighborhood looks ahead to next season, this year’s results leave plenty to celebrate: more than 150 swimmers, 10 All-Star qualifiers and a community swim program that continues to bring families together in a way that feels distinctly Williamsburg Settlement.
