Williamsburg Settlement Announces October YOTM Winner
October Yard of the Month Winner
Gary and Susan Nabozny recently redesigned their front beds at 1607 Calveryman Lane, and their neighbors are taking notice!
Susan and Gary are both US Navy Veterans. Susan retired from the Navy after 23 year’s service as a Chief Petty Officer and Gary became a US Merchant Mariner after the Navy and worked as a civilian mariner for the Department of the Navy. Like other nominees, the Nabozny’s were attracted to the mature trees of the Williamsburg Settlement and moved to the neighborhood 25 years ago with their then, 3-year-old daughter. During his first year in the Settlement, Gary worked on his house, formerly known as the “spooky house of Calveryman Lane,” because of all the overgrown greenery. He then opened Anchor Home Repair Services for 20 years, which he has since retired from.
Their neighbor, Chris D’Onfro, who nominated the Nabozny’s for Yard of the Month, said that “Gary has kept an immaculate yard for the duration. This spring he redesigned his front beds, and I have enjoyed his spectacular coleus cluster all summer.” Using Greenkeepers solely for lawn fertilization and pest control, Gary performs 100% of his lawn mowing and landscaping himself.
When asked to describe his own front yard creation, Gary describes it as being semi formal with holly bushes in the rear with sunshine ligustrums at each end of the back border of the plant bed. He also placed sun tolerant coleus in the planter boxes, with red and yellow coleus on both sides of the beds. Annual flowers such as zinnias add an additional sprinkle of color, while white delight sun tolerant caladiums draw your eye to his beautiful yard. Quite recently, their neighbor noticed, the Nabozny’s have also included fall mums for an additional pop of color.
Thank you to Gary and Susan Nabozny for keeping our neighborhood a beautiful place to live! Congratulations to our October 2024 Yard of the Month winners.
