Williamsburg Colony Shred Day Returns October 4: Secure Your Documents, Support the Environment

September 18 2025

Homeowners in Williamsburg Colony will have a safe, secure, and sustainable way to dispose of old paperwork next month during the upcoming Community Shred Event on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Williamsburg Colony Clubhouse.

West Houston Document Destruction will once again provide a mobile shredding truck for the event. Residents can bring documents in any format—boxes, bags, or loose stacks of paper—and watch the shredding process live through a truck-mounted camera. No appointment is needed, and there’s no need to remove staples, paperclips, or hanging folders.

This year’s event continues the tradition of offering both privacy protection and peace of mind. Whether you’re clearing out outdated financial records, medical documents, or school paperwork, the event helps reduce identity theft risks while responsibly recycling paper materials.

What Not to Bring

  • No electronics
  • No non-paper items
  • No binder clips

The shredding process is fast, efficient, and lasts a minimum of three hours—offering plenty of time for residents to participate during the Saturday morning window. The shred truck will be parked near the pool lot or other accessible area of the clubhouse parking zone to allow smooth in-and-out traffic.

Why Shredding Events Matter

Beyond the convenience and security, document shredding events like this one offer a clear environmental benefit. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), recycling one ton of paper can save:

  • 17 trees
  • 7,000 gallons of water
  • 3 cubic yards of landfill space
  • 380 gallons of oil
  • 4,000 kilowatts of energy—enough to power an average home for six months

By securely shredding and recycling paper waste, Williamsburg Colony residents are directly contributing to reduced deforestation and lower greenhouse gas emissions. It’s a simple action that adds up—and builds a stronger, cleaner community.

The EPA and the American Forest & Paper Association both emphasize that small-scale recycling efforts, such as neighborhood shred days, are a key part of meeting the national goal of a 50% recycling rate by 2030.
