January 23 2025

Lunar New Year, one of the most widely celebrated holidays around the world, is quickly approaching, and Cypress and the greater Cy-Fair area are joining in on the festivities. This year marks the Year of the Snake, a time for new beginnings, transformation, and good fortune. If you're looking for ways to ring in the Lunar New Year with your community, there are plenty of exciting events and activities happening throughout the area to celebrate the rich cultural traditions associated with the holiday.

What is Lunar New Year?

Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year or the Spring Festival, has been celebrated for thousands of years across various cultures in East Asia and beyond. It marks the first day of the lunar calendar, typically falling between January 21 and February 20. This festival celebrates family, renewal, and prosperity, and it is deeply rooted in Chinese customs and traditions.

Each year is associated with one of the 12 animals from the Chinese zodiac, and the Snake will take the spotlight in 2025. The Snake symbolizes wisdom, charm, and elegance, but it also represents transformation and growth. According to Chinese astrology, the Year of the Snake is believed to bring introspection, personal growth, and the opportunity to embrace new beginnings.
